Active again?

Hello Greek community!

So, here's the deal. I'm currently a sophomore, going to be junior, and I joined a sorority my freshman year (the usual). Right after I joined, I was a very active member, since, obviously, I was very excited to be a part of my new sisterhood. The first semester of my sophomore year, I was also as active as I could be, since my major is very time consuming, and took every chance I could to be involved, even though I really didn't have the time to do so. I went through a lot of very tough personal problems nearing the end of that semester, so this spring semester, I was hardly involved at all. At the moment, I feel really disconnected from my sorority, and as summer's approaching, I can't help but think that'd I'd like to be a little more involved next year. Not to mention become a much better big sister to my little, who I've hardly connected with. I'm not looking to take on any positions, but I'd just really like to be an active sister again! Any ideas on how to get involved and be a better sister without overcommitting myself would be much appreciated!

Nike is right: Just do it! Undoubtedly you'll return and some committee openings will be open for this or that reason. If it's something that interests you, volunteer! You'll be showing your willingness to get involved without biting off more than you can chew.

If you live at all close to your little, see if you can get together and do lunch and shopping sometime early in the summer. This applies to any sisters, for that matter.

Does your school do fall recruitment? If so, there you go -- there will be opportunity to spend time and reconnect with your sisters. Recruitment is often a time of bonding or relighting the fire. When members are thinking about dropping, they're often advised to hold on until the next formal recruitment. Many do and find themselves recharged and back in the fold. It sounds like you are happy with your sorority but just got disconnected due to other things. It happens, but preparing for and going through recruitment on the sorority side together can bring sisters closer and provide areas to serve in. Best wishes!

I was going to say the same thing as 33 girl. If you do live near a sister - call her the next time you are going shopping or looking for something to do. If you don't live near your little - invite her to spend a weekend with you. Do touristy stuff, hit the waterpark or the pool, or show her things that are unique to where you grew up.
