Something that is in all of the advice threads: keep an open mind. In NPC recruitment, do not choose one sorority at the beginning and ignore the others.

Oh, of course I plan on doing that! Like I said, I'm open to any sorority, the only reason I am interested in any particular sorority is because (from what I've read) I feel comfortable with their philanthropy and have a friend who raves about it all the time! I won't know until rush week, of course, where I really will feel comfortable!

I would erase the part about the specific sorority you are interested in IMMEDIATELY. It may be nothing like the chapter your friend is in, and while you may like their national presence, that really has zero to do with how you may feel about them when you actually rush (or how they may feel about you). In other words - erase that idea from your head as well as from your posts.

If you are going to get recs, you need to do it now, and have your rec writers send them directly to the chapters before rush begins. There are many many threads on this.

I have no knowledge of WVU, but your lack of family Greek " credentials" should not be a liability. Your weak resume will be a bigger problem. Focus on your equestrian accomplishments and list those so that the average person will say, " wow. I dont know much about this sport, but this girl has excelled in it."

When is WVU's recruitment? Fall? Mid term?

My daughter rode hunter/jumper so I know how time-consuming that sport is. You could spin what may be perceived as a lack of activities when compared to other PNMs just as gee_ess suggested-by pumping up that portion of your resume' and by stressing your equestrian accomplishments as your highest priority in activities during high school. The fact that the Olympics will have aired this summer and that most likely they will show some equestrian events (especially since Princess Anne's daughter, Zara Phillips, will be competing for Great Britain) could really work in your favor.

Alright, thank you very much! gee_ees, the recruitment is in the fall.
FSUZeta- I have ridden hunter/jumper since I was 3 years old! Thank you for your advice, I completely agree with how time consuming riding is, not to mention how challenging.

Again, thank you very much for all your answers! I had trouble finding my answers in the other threads and I have been unsuccessful reaching the Greek Life office at my school, so your comments are very helpful!

Are recs necessary for WVU rush? If so, you need to get those asap if your rush occurs this fall. Check out the many threads regarding proper etiquette regarding talking to alumnae and other suggestions to make the rec process as successful as possible.
