I think it would be totally worth it ... Can't always follow the crowd and you know what is best for you ....

^^This may or may not be true. Unless you know the poster's specific school and situation, it's best to avoid giving such definitive advice.

It all depends on your school. At some schools no one cares when you pledge, but at others, spring pledging is looked down upon. I advise you to search GC for answers regarding YOUR school specifically.

This. And it may also depend on what kind of fraternity the OP is talking about.

Your pledge class isn't the whole chapter. You would make friends regardless, unless you are REALLY in the wrong place. Spring pledges (or whenever the informal recruitment period is) tend to be smaller groups, and pledge "classes" of one are not unheard of. A pledge class of 1 is kind of a bummer, but it would give you the benefits of membership right away and you'd be able to hit the ground running as an active in the fall, which would be nice.

I know there are so many variables here it's impossible to give good advice. Ask a few questions of the guys in the chapter and maybe some others (know of guys in other houses?). Maybe with 3 or 4 varying opinions but all from right there you can start to form or clarify your own. Waiting might be the better choice but at some schools that would be silly (because who cares when you pledged?) and at others you might be killing your chance altogether. Good luck!
