Remembering Bob Marley...
30 years ago today, Nesta Robert "Bob" Marley (my boyfriend/husband/shawty in another life) passed away. Some found/find his death to be mysterious and "too convenient."
Whatever the case may be, I still listen to his music on a regular basis. I love all of his songs, even the stuff from the very beginning of his career.
Here are my favorites:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nlk9Sj4Ns2k
"Stir It Up" (boomchickawowow!!!)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64QkD5pBWWE
"No Woman No Cry"
What say you, GCers?
(And Marley's fine self made some fine sons. )

A fun game for procrastination would be to use nothing but Bob Marley lyrics and song titles in normal conversations.
And...go....!!!
Rise up this mornin', smile with the risin sun, three little birds, pitch by my door step...sun is shining, the weather is sweet, make you want to move your dancing feet...
(Maybe? LOL)

And for those who didn't notice, I put "Three Little Birds" with "Sun is Shining."

Dynamic, captivating, charismatic, magical. Just as relevant today as it was then.
ETA: fixed the link, it should work now.

 Awesome link.
Strongly political concert with great performances. I also love to see a fine man dance (who knows how to dance). It does something to me.

Me too.
And I wore out my Rastaman Vibration LP. Literally wore it out. Think I drove my neighbors stark raving mad. "Jah love, Jah love, protect us"; those were some fine moments in my living room, dancing to that.

"3 Little Birds" is my favorite Marley song (and it might be one of the best songs of all time - definitely makes the first cut) ... so of the ones unmentioned, I'll dig a little further back into the early Marley era for some favorites.
Sometimes we forget that Bob Marley and the Wailers weren't just the seminal reggae band - they also pioneered dub and ska, putting out some of the best mid-tempo stuff of the time:
"Guava Jelly/This Train" - this version is a beating, a near-rival for "3 Little Birds"
http://youtu.be/1Cw_8ko6PrI
"Mr. Brown" - the best song about Jamaican ghosts, period:
http://youtu.be/3VbwibwTZrM
"One Cup of Coffee" - first single from a 17yo Marley ... the voice isn't developed, but creates a pantheon-level first-wave ska track anyway:
http://youtu.be/he5Dv0tSr3Y
"Simmer Down" - Collaboration with the legendary Skatalites, showing the amazing amount of talent working in a relatively small population ...
