Bigs/littles in new chapter

For a new chapter of a GLO, where there are no "current brothers/sisters"... how does one do big/little pairing? The idea of a big is to make a little feel at home in the organization and give them guidance on the GLO they are joining, but in a new chapter, everyone is new to the GLO. Would it be possible to assign big/littles by upperclassmen/underclassmen status, operating as more of an academic/career/social mentor?

Our most recent colony did an older/younger member kind of pairing.

Some of our colonies have done Twins instead of Big/Little.

When we were listening to expansion presentations by the groups looking to colonize, one of the things I was most impressed with was Phi Mu's plan for Big/Little Sis week.

Their plan was to match each new member up with someone else, but not necessarily pair them. Each new member would therefore have both a Big and a Little.

Gifts, etc, would be left at a designated spot.

You lose the mentoring part, but retain the bonding aspects of Big Sis week.

The other option they suggested was having "long distance" bigs from a neighboring chapter. Here you gain mentoring, but kind of lose the bonding.

A combination of these two might work.

Those are all great ideas. Thanks =) If anyone has further suggestions, I'm open to them.

In both of my GLOs, big/little pairings are interchapter. For NPC sororities on my campus, new colony members are given Panhellenic big sis' from other sororities.
