Extremely Nervous & In Need of Advice

I'm a sophomore and rushing this fall semester. I've only been at my school for one semester so I haven't really found my niche yet, and I've decided that Greek Life is something I'm very interested in.

I am very, very nervous. I'm good at hiding my nerves, chatting with anyone and making great conversation. I'm president of a club, I volunteer and I'm passionate about my major. Yet I have this daunting anxiety that the girls I like won't like me.

Last spring I rushed (when there were very little spots) and got invited back to a couple parties, but didn't get a bid. Even though I knew it wasn't my fault, it was hard to deal with.

I'm already planning outfits, make-up and questions for rush. I guess what I'm in need of is some advice on what to ask, what not to ask, and if there's some secret I don't know about to getting in besides being yourself.

Thanks!

While I hope this doesn't turn into a typical newbie thread, I do think that reading through the recruitment forums would do you much good, because most of your questions would be answered there. There is no secret to getting in because every chapter at every school is comprised of individuals who have chosen one another as sisters, not a group of like-minded zombies. Keep a positive attitude, MAXIMIZE YOUR OPTIONS, and have an open mind. Don't bring up any uncomfortable or awkward topics, and if any girls at any of the houses you visited in spring recruitment remember you, just acknowledge that you remember them as well and smile. I would never bring up any lingering questions you may have about why you didn't receive a bid in the spring, or worse, write a group off as not interested in you because you didn't pledge there already. One of my best DG friends went through formal recruitment, didn't pledge anywhere, and then the following year ended up pledging DG. Things change. Chapter atmospheres change. Girls graduate. Etc. In any event, just make sure you give every chapter a fair shot.

And read the stickies.
