Electronic Q

The newly-arrived Quarterly has a "green" theme.

I do wonder why the Q takes topics that have been discussed in other media (print and nonprint), restates a lot of it, and adds a little AGD twist (p. 6,
"how your chapter can go green," and p. 5, cites two AGDs who have "green careers"). Why not an article on projects that chapters have for going green -- does any chapter have a vegetable garden so that they can eat very locally? Are new or renovated chapter houses going for LEED certification? (Probably not; LEED is expensive.) Are house associations working with chapters to reduce water use, reduce other utility use (and cost)? Are any chapters involved in campus recycling awareness, or cashing in aluminum cans for philanthropy? Have any Alpha Gams led campus or Greek environmental awareness projects?

That the Q is going electronic for two issues a year. It is a "green" move in more ways than one -- much is made of how much paper it will save -- but I suspect that the real green savings will be money!

P.S. Which other NPC/NIC groups have gone to electronic journals?

I'm fairly certain that Lambda Chi Alpha's Cross and Crescent has been electronic only for a couple years now.

Got my Winter 2011 Electric Quarterly!

I must say that I'm still getting used to this. While I like the feel of an issue in my hands, I like the sharpness and color of the photos and content of an electronic issue.

Great to know that the official website will be re-done soon and each collegiate chapter will be able to get their own site done free of charge.

Congrats to all Foundation scholarship recipients!

Kappa has both print and electronic. The electronic one comes through a few days before it does in the mail, so I often wind up reading that way. There are still so many older alumnae who don't have access to (or choose not to use) the internet... if they are transitioning to e-only it'll probably be a slow transition. I don't know whether they have any plans to discontinue the snail mail version of The Key.

I didn't get mine I'm not sure if collegians are just getting them later, or if it's maybe something to do with Canadian chapters usually getting things a little bit later. Is there anything exciting in the Quarterly this time around?

I'm excited for our new chapter website in March!! I think that it's a great move for the Fraternity

This is the electronic issue I received today. I got the link to view it in an email.

I'm pretty sure the issue's already up on the website for viewing!

And don't worry, when I was a collegian I always received the printed issue late because it was sent to my mother's address.

Yes, the Sigma Kappa Triangle is totally e now. I am a purist, I miss getting it in the mail, but I do realize the cost effectiveness of it. However, a sister and I were discussing the fact that it might exclude older alumnae who don't get online, let alone own a computer. I think there's part of me that wants to believe that there might be elderly sisters who enjoyed getting the publication and it made them feel more connected by keeping up with the goings on.
