Expansion/Starting a new chapter

Hello! I am a student at a college in Missouri, and I was just wondering if you guys know the expansion and colonization policy? Several of my friends have come to me to help start a chapter due to my connections to some former Grand Council members, but I don't know if my school would be down for another fraternity. I know its a lot of work, but I would love to know how the process works.

Thanks

Something to be aware of is that Sigma Nu does take applications from interest groups. I know the newly installed chapter at Longwood University in Virginia started out as an interest group. Also, it doesn't hurt to have people in high places get you on the list for expansion. The chapter at Central Oklahoma (mine) had a lot of help from one of the directors of the Educational Foundation in getting off of the ground.

Thank you very much for the help....the major worry is if the school will be accepting of another fraternity. We already have 10 for 7,000 undergrads.

That's a lot.

Usually, the way it goes down is that the school will declare itself open for expansion, some groups will come and give presentations, they choose one and then they expand.

There might be a way around that, but every school is different. As far as being granted colony status, Sigma Nu will only expand to places where it's wanted and welcome.

Not really. If they all are healthy and happy with the size they are, and housing of various sizes is available, there's no reason for every fraternity to have 100+ members, and the more fraternities available, the more diverse array of students they can attract to Greek life.
