Wisconsin
Hey ladies, I am going through recruitment at the University of Wisconsin- Madison next August and I was wondering if anyone could tell me what it's like (how competitive it is, how important recs are, etc.) I do not know anyone in a sorority there. I just want to know what I am in store for and should expect for as well as if I need to start hunting down recs now. I'm very excited and of course am planning on going in with an open mind. I tried searching but couldn't really find any old topics about Wisconsin. Any information that anyone has to offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!! edit: i put in enters between paragraphs but they are not showing up. i'm sorry if my post is hard to read.

I have heard that Wisconsin is a little competitive so recs would probably be a good idea.

This is an important place to point out the difference between snap bids and COBs. Snap bids are offered before bid day if a chapter does not match quota. The women who a chapter may snap bid are women who went through formal recruitment but released the chapter in a prior round because she had more invites than spaces for a round, or who dropped out of recruitment (who were not released by the chapter in question).
If a chapter does not meet quota by bid day via snap bidding, if they decline to snap bid, or if they match quota and have a NM decline her bid, they may fill her spot via COB. Anyone more familiar with Green Book rules correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think a campus Panhellenic can restrict who a chapter may bid via COB. As in, a woman who suicides and is unmatched is eligible. As long as a woman has not matched with another chapter/accepted a bid to another chapter within the last year and she meets all campus requirements, a chapter may offer her a bid.
If chapters that don't match quota the normal way fill all their spots with snap bidding instead of COB, this may be where the Panhellenic-suggested strategy comes in.

Those are new words for me.

Sconnie = native Wisconsin, Coastie could mean the same, or not. Clarification, please?
Madison was on my short list of prospective schools when I was researching colleges as a teen. I ended up going elsewhere, but I still take an interest.
The state school I ended up selecting was (at the time) composed of half out-of-state students (it's still pretty close.) It was so much fun to interact with people from all over the country. To this day, I still don't get why certain chapters at certain schools have a preference for in-state students, but that's just me.

From urban dictionary, Sconnie sounds like somebody from the rural areas, while Coastie is city/preppy. Or all those kids from Chicago?

Sconnie/Coastie
Okay---let me brush the cobwebs off----
Sconnie--- A Wisconsin native/high school graduate. Someone who claims Wisconsin to be their home state. Sconnie is parts of the state name.
Coastie---- Well, originally the East Coast (Atlantic Ocean), but has evolved to mean, east coast AND Chicago area students (coast of course being Lake Michigan!!) and even if you are from the suburbs of Chicago, you are still considered a 'Coastie.'
I'm still waiting to hear what, if any name, applys to the small number of Coast students from the Pacific Coast!!!!

thanks everyone! from what has been said so far i am guessing the answer is no, but are you guaranteed a bid if you maximize your options?

I'm not sure if Wisconsin has guaranteed matching or not.
Generally speaking (with most schools), if you make it to Preference night, attend a full schedule of Preference parties, and RANK ALL of your final choices (this is the key), chances are good that you will get a bid from one of them (though of course it may not be your #1 choice).
