The Watchmen

Just came from the screening tonight.

My thoughts:

It was a good movie but in no way in comparison to the Dark Knight so please don't go with that expectation.

Pretty good book adaptation even tho a lot was cut (to be expected of any book to movie) it still went panel to panel

Also, due to that, it's also a heavy movie if you never read the comic or have a passing interest in this flick. If you aren't vested in this film you will get lost quite easily so please don't expect this to be a Point A to Point B flick.

Otherwise....come Friday, go see this extraordinary movie and if you have any questions you want to know about this movie, PM me.

Scale of 1 to 10 it's an 8

I treated myself to a movie last night. I went to see "Taken". Great movie btw. A must see. When I left the theater, there was a huge line. I asked one of the people that worked there which movie it was for and he said it was for The Watchmen.

I don't think any movie can be as bad as the Dark Knight.

Nah...but for those that really appreciated the comic, I think they would like the movie.

It may take a few watchings to fully digest it.

The comic book itself is definately not your run of the mill, bad guy versus good guy comic book. I read reviews that this movie will polarized people, either people will get it and love it, or don't get it and hated it. Haven't seen the movie, but if they go by the graphic novel, I can understand that.

That is true..it was ahead of it's time even by 1980's standards and if you fail to grasp the contemporary elements of the period, then you will miss a big part of the movie.

I won't read the book (I assume it's the book version of a comic book) but I'll see this movie because it reminds me of XMen.

I've always been a comic book buff so I initially thought Watchmen was a comic book that I was unaware of. I'm still waiting for some storyline to be revealed since I'm unfamiliar with these characters.

ETA: Just read moe.ron's post. It is a graphic novel like I thought. I won't have the chance to read that but I like graphic novels.

It's nothing like the X men.

If you aren't going to read the book between now and Friday, read it after you see it.

I know the storyline isn't, from what I gather from it. I'm talking about the way the characters look.

I'll never read the graphic novel.

Hopefully the movie is done well enough that I can understand it without that.

Question: What do you think the movie is about?

I've asked myself that everytime I see the trailer.

Okay, it's 1985. There's tension between the Soviet Union and the US. Nuclear war, and all that stuff. The Watchmen are vigilantes investigating a murder of another superhero.

The rest, I have to get from http://watchmenmovie.warnerbros.com/

I have no idea why I didn't read or even know about this graphic novel when I was little.

Live-in is super excited to see the movie (he has read the graphic novel) and I suppose I'll need him to fill in the blanks for me.

Mostly the reason I'm going is because often times if a movie doesn't appeal to me I send him off with his brother to see it, yet I constantly drag him to movies that he doesn't want to see. This time I'm giving in, the previews look cool, and I like a lot of the music from the trailers.

I made the poor guy and his best friend go to both Sex and the City and He's Just Not That Into You with me - I owe him this movie.

I just saw a commercial that highlighted one of the female superheros.

If I had to only go based on that commercial, I wouldn't see the movie.

That's actually a good thing...kind of...sometimes when they advertise these types of movies, they give away too much of the movie and then you are disappointed.

DS--

Saw the Watchmen today. I liked the storyline. Easy to follow because I have been into comics for awhile. While I cannot tell the storyline off the bat like my husband can, who really is a comic book fan with sellable books in the $100s right now, with Deathloks et al., I am an Anime fan, like Usherman, The real Robotech and ZetaGundam... I digress...

I think for those who really didn't grow up around the 99 Luftballons' time, might have some issues...

And all I can say is there are a quite a few butts and penises hangin' around...

Too many blue penises... But that works, too...
