Buffalo: Students Suspended -- Hazing Alleged (Alpha Tau Omega)
Edited to add: According to the national web site of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, the ATO college chapters in New York State are at Cornell, St. Lawrence, and Syracuse. The site doesn't list Buffalo as having a chapter. So: I don't know exactly what the chapter mentioned in the news report is. I just wanted to clarify that apparently it isn't a chapter of what most GCers regard as ATO.
I regret and apologize for any confusion or misrepresentation the original posting may have caused.
Thank you for noting this edit.
According to the Buffalo News, some students have been suspended and an investigation is going on in a case of alleged hazing:

Brief excerpts from longer report:
Four University of Buffalo students have been suspended and two of them criminally charged in a fraternity hazing incident that landed one student in a hospital early today.
The young man, whose name was not released, was among several students who were ordered to strip down to their underwear so that fraternity brothers in Alpha Tau Omega could cover them with a liquid concoction of purple spray paint and red hot sauce, according to Buffalo police.

Wasn't there a reality show on MTV about a local fraternity and sorority at UB? My cousin went there - I think I remember she was on campus while they were taping but maybe I'm making that up?
ETA: I bet it was Frank's, too. That stuff is pretty hot - it's really sick that they put it near their eyes.

Yes, the local sorority was Delta Xi Omega. I forget the name of the local fraternity but they were so dumb they allowed hazing incidents to be captured and aired by MTV!

It is important to know that Alpha Tau Omega is not a recognized fraternity at UB. It hasn't been since 2002.

The local fraternity was Sigma Chi Omega.

Right you are, elusive47. A regional station's coverage of the incident mentions problems with those unrecognized groups:
http://www.wkbw.com/news/local/34840539.html
and the university has a list of unrecognized groups, accompanied by a warning:

Poking around the UB site, I noticed that Chi Omega is no longer there. I wonder if my cousin knows her chapter is inactive there?

They're basically glorified perps who do nothing but haze and throw house parties.

Not really, recognized GLOs drastically outnumber the perp frats. Most GLOs on campus are comprised of responsible, both academically and socially, people who care about the way their org is viewed thus refusing to associate with any of the perp frats.

Funny thing about that, they left their wall clock in the Student Union. It now hangs prominently at the information desk.

Simply having that many groups who have lost recognition demonstrates that the campus is high risk, in my opinion.

Just wanted to clarify some things up here:
Our unrecognized organizations at UB are unrecognized for different reasons: some hazing incidents, others just as simple as disassociating from nationals. Our greek website says we have currently six off campus organizations but it is highly understood in Greek Life that the mentioned ZBT group is no longer dieing off in 2006 due to the National Office coming in and ceasing to allow this group to continue to use their letters.
The other five organization's legitimate national offices don't help the Buffalo Greeks by choosing to do nothing and as you can see they still exist. It recent years the numbers in these orgs have started to dwindle but still we are left with five unafilliated entities.
The Buffalo Chi Omega chapter closed in the late 90's and yes our Student Union Manager's desk does have a Chi Omega clock. Remaining Sisters of Chi Omega created their own local sorority Kappa Phi Epsilon.
