Internet Standards

There has been a lot of discussion on various Greek-related boards concerning what's cool to post on the internet and what's not. I'd like to take the time to mention just a few:

1) Pictures are forever! Once you've let someone take a photo of you eating or drinking anything, you have lost control over the use of that photo. Think Paris Hilton. I could give you an example from my own chapter (nowhere near that bad, thank heavens!), if you care to PM me.

2) Pictures of ANY form of Ritual should never, ever be taken! Frankly, if you have to be told that, you should think twice about whether or not you're ready for sorority.

3) Pictures, part 3: Okay, say you've decided to ignore #1 & 2 and have taken pictures of ritual. Are you really SO COMPLETELY STUPID that you would put such a picture on your internet photo album? If you are, please drop out of college now. In fact, please drop out of the gene pool, because that's a special kind of stupid!

4) Drinking or smoking in letters - unattractive, no matter how you look at it. Pictures of it - even worse. Posting them - dumb!

5) When you flame someone, using profane language, YOU are going to be the one who looks like a bully or a foul-mouthed fishwife, not the one who said whatever deserved the abuse in the first place. Remember our Standards Code, and realize that, if you use such language in THIS Forum, it will be deleted. If you use it in another Forum, I will ask the appropriate Mod to delete it. If you think you can get away with it on another message board, think twice - there are sisters watching more websites than you realize! I cannot stress this enough!!!

Any questions? Please feel free to ask!

Just a quick thanks before bedtime for the support from HBADPi & peanutttu, and the many sisters who PM'd me!!! I don't like being in the role of the heavy, but y'all have to trust me, this issue is only getting bigger, and had to be addressed NOW!

Thanks again!!

Anytime honey! This hits all too close to home as it was something I recently discussed with some women. I definitely agree that we're going to see more and more of this topic come up in the coming months/years.

Ladies, I just added my two cents to PO, asking for discussion on Internet Standards on PO. I think it's time that a universal mandate be made on this.

I put something there that many of you PM'd me about, so you're brought up to speed, but if you have a few minutes, look on PO, under Alumnae Topics. I'd rather we don't discuss this here, but we can take it to the other lines, or on PO, if you'd like. Thanks!!

FYI - at VLS we all received a handout on ADPi's Internet Standards policy. There was a lot of discussion about this issue in the various sessions.

I don't post very often, but.....wasn't there something in the latest Adelphian??? (inside cover? Sorry, I'm at work and don't have my copy available.) It may not specifically mention boards like GC, but I think it still applies.......

Food for thought: When using public means of communication, it is always important to remember that you never know who will be reading or listening!

Take care sisters, and I hope you all have a safe and happy summer!

OPERATION: Facebook Facelift

great post... everyone needs a reminder once in a while.

*Question* do any of your chapters have a "facebook facelift" team?
one of my friends (an axo) has this at her chapter. from what i understand its something standards sets up (they actually give standards of what can/cannot be in your profile and has a team who goes through and checks..if it isnt up to standard they'll ask you to change it or remove your letters). It seems like a great idea to me... but i dont see some girls responding well to the idea.
