Exclamation Words of Wisdom - To Neos

Share some words of wisdom for neos (doesn't matter the organization).

Before you do something...listen to the still small voice in your head that says "What would the Founders Think/Do?"

You are not in a position to "check" anybody else.

If you crossed in the spring and convention is that summer -- GO! Beg, borrow, and befriend sponsors . You WILL need that reinvigoration and the global context or else you will burn out and get jaded in that first year.

Befriend your brother/sister organization, but don't jock them.

Would you mind explaining that a little bit more?

And please, keep the tips coming!

Maintain cordial relationships with the members, but branch out and collaborate with other organizations. And don't get mad at them when they do the same. Joining AKA (for example) is not an automatic free pass to Alpha parties. Nor should Alphas get mad if AKAs like the Ques on their yard more.

Gotcha. I did see a lot of that in undergrad.

Everyone makes mistakes. Take it as a learning experience and keep going.

I like this one!

It really is okay to be friends with someone in another organization. We're all basically trying to do the same thing, but in different colors.

Don't let the letters change you.

What I've learned as a Neo is to take correction with humbleness. If a soror admonishes me to straighten up and fly right...I know she is doing it in sisterly love.

I also now know that there is no such thing as stupid questions.

Just my $0.20

You choose what represents your organization. The best, the worst and the humane.

KNOW YOUR DOCUMENTS!!! ALL OF THEM THE BETTER!!! THEY ARE PRINTED BY YOUR CORPORATE OFFICE AND LOCAL CHAPTERS FOR SEVERAL REASONS.

You are not the first, the last or the orginal member to ever have your particular problem within your organization. What are diamonds, goldens and silvers with pearls and gemstones are for??? And I am not talking about Jared

When older members of your organization attempt to talk to you and share their pearls of wisdom be open and receptive. Listen to what they are saying. More often than not they are trying to prepare you to do the work that needs to be done in your organization.

Also as a neo, especially if you are still in college, there are some things that you are going to experience just because you are a neo.

AMEN! Along with this, get to know the older members of your organization-starting with those in your sponsoring graduate/alumni chapter. Then, when you're about to graduate and transfer into the chapter or one elsewhere, you may not feel so ill at ease with the age differences between you and some of your fellow members.

To piggy back on this, "I didn't know" is not an excuse (shouldn't be making those anyway ). All documents and manuals are available to all members. Purchase them. Read them. Refer to them OFTEN. Do not depend on your advisor(s) or other chapter members to tell you what's right and wrong. Unfortunately, not all of them are doing the right things and are leading you astray.

Each one, teach one.

Get to know your good sorors who are in alumnae chapter before you graduate, if possible. They are good resources and sounding boards.

Remember to respect your sorors (this applies to both official and unofficial bonds). We are not here to be sex buddies or pin up girls. Respect us as women and as sorors..
