Overrated Pizza

Overrated pizza

I’m going with Pizza Hut. Nasty as hell. It’s even worse as a leftover.

You?

Dominoes, because it leaves the most disgusting aftertaste ever. I only like (currently) Green Mill pizza and Edwardo’s pizza (when they were still around).

Dominoes puts too much garlic on their pizza, that’s why.

Are there any PHs left? Most of the ones here have gone out of business. It was huge back in the day but I think everyone just got over it at a certain point.

My friend and I always joke that no matter how hard anyone tries to remodel a PH building you can always tell it was a PH.

My only comment to the pizza conversation is that no matter what anyone says…NJ pizza is the best pizza- even better than NY. I miss it dearly.

In Oklahoma, PH is still big. They've moved out of their traditional stores and are mostly found in strip malls and are exclusively delivery. Back in the day, they had a big dining room, video games and a limited bar selection, but no more.

But agreed, they are truly awful. So much salt it burns your mouth.

The only redeaming feature is that little table thing that holds up your box makes great Barbie furniture.

I don't get pizza often, but my go to is Jet's Pizza. Never heard of it before I moved here, but yum!! It's square cut and the crust is carmelized.

When I was in college, I worked in a facility in that area…one resident would order Mineo’s for the staff and it was divine. That was years and years ago but I still remember lol.

We had our organic chemistry class on Wednesday nights and our professor embarrassedly admitted it was his pre class tradition to go to the PH buffet with his wife every Wednesday before our class lol.

Those buffets were so cheap back in the day but they were good and you could eat as much as you wanted for like $10. They even started giving my job a discount day when our office moved to the neighborhood with the PH buffet which made it even cheaper. I wonder if that PH still exists. It even had pasta bakes and those pizza desserts with fruit too, and a salad bar!

Bollo pizza out here is where I generally go for pizza. Since pizza at the grocery store has gotten so good now, I buy that. It’s cheaper and it taste just as good as some of the pizza around town.

Truth

I've learned that, for whatever reason, my tummy will not tolerate store bought pizza!

Winter, was the Mineo's in the Pittsburgh area?

While I was in college, a local joint featured pizza whose taste resembled sweet catsup with plenty of cracked black pepper on cardboard. Even the cheese had a cardboard consistency. Must've tasted heavenly to the drunken weekend crowd; the place didn't close until the mid-90s.

A second college establishment featured 'puffs' of pizza. Depending on your choice of puff flavor/type, those were either too difficult to chew or so thin their hot internal ingredients burst everywhere in a burning squirt when you bit into them.

We appreciated the local Pizza Hut, but it was located six miles (one way) across town and preffered not to deliver to the dorms (students not wanting to pay after receiving pizza/old versions of delivery meant cold arrival of eats). But if we could get ourselves to it, it was Pizza Hut for us. We especially loved that they had jukeboxes back then!

When I was in school, it was all about the pizza bagels! But we were also thrilled to go to a Pizza Hut - about 10 miles away,

I work for a pizza company now so I don't feel like I can chime in- but I haven't seen it mentioned here yet so I guess that's good

I agree on Pizza Hut being way overrated.
