New ADPi Badge!!

I'm sure that some of you may know this, but just wanted to share what I learned at DLC!

In honor of our 160th anniversary, Alpha Delta Pi has released two special commemorative badges. Both feature turquoise stones to tie in with the theme of Grand Convention being held in Arizona this year. One has turquoise points of the diamond, and one has turquoise all around. They had pictures of them, and they look gorgeous! They will be available to order at Grand Convention, I'm not sure if you will actually be able to buy them there.

They will also be releasing a new edition of Sisters, available to purchase for $75 at Grand Convention as well as sent to all Chapters. Grand Council will also have an autograph session and will sign your copy!

Okay, now I'm trying to think of how to come up with the money for the Convention, the flight, two pins, AND Sisters! To say nothing of the other money matters I need to address (when oh when is this estate going to be settled??).

It is a HUGE history! It contains not only information about the sorority as a whole, but also individual chapters and "important" members, I think. I have never seen one, but I have heard a lot about it and can't wait to buy a personal copy!

Joining in the crashing! When I was at PFA this past fall, the Herff Jones rep was discussing the varying stones, and which was most expensive - I guessed opal & she said it's one of the most expensive, but that turquoise was the currently most expensive stone they were working with for a special project. This must be what it was - sounds awesome!

*crash* Stop it, ADPis, you are torturing me. I want to SEE it, or at least a "mock up". Wonder what color or shade of turqoise it'll be? *yes there are shades of turquoise) Or what mine it'll come from? June seems like such a long time to wait.

The history book is something I'd be interested in; I know a few other GCers who probably would be interested as well.

I do have a copy of the original Sisters, which came out on our 150th anniversary. For bibliophiles, one of the nicest parts is there's an amazing paper book cover, but underneath it is another, different amazing hardcover book cover (if that makes sense). This is the paper cover:

The actual bound cover has the colors reversed, for starters.

The main reason Sisters has been updated is that, despite endless searching, no one had ever been able to find a picture or painting of our one founder, Elizabeth Williams Mitchell. Somehow, they've managed to consult a descendent who DOES have an image of her, and that will be in the newest Sisters. Now, that might not get y'all hot and excited, but speaking for 160 years of ADPis, we're thrilled!

And I agree, there should be a notice of the new pins on the ADPi or HJ site! Just think of how many more people would be interested in going if they knew about it! Lady Pi, do you know if they're available in yellow gold, or the traditional silver for Arizona?

^^^Honey, I'm crashing this thread big time but can't help myself. I am really interested in the history book. AZ-Alpha Xi got me into the written histories and I'd like to hear more about the book. From what you posted, your copy of the previous edition is gorgeous.

And: Turqoise and silver jewelry is endemic to the Southwest, but I've also grown to love turqoise and gold. Keep us all posted, ADPis! Badge lovers are waiting.

Please, no apologies for crashing! People who play nice are always welcome in our sandbox!

And that's what worries me a bit - I have a ton of turquoise & silver jewelry, but once you've seen turquoise & yellow gold, you can't help but notice how much better the turquoise *pops* in the gold. I can understand, though, that silver became the metal of choice with it being so available there.

How am I going to afford all of this????

Well, since Honey said it was ok...
I'm super excited to see the new badges! I love turquoise and it seems like it's hard to come by new badges with turquoise; it seems like they stopped being made while ago, which personally I don't understand! I hope you'll put up pictures as soon as you have some!

From the pictures, I think they will only be available in silver, and it is a very blue turquoise, no greenish undertones! But color will vary a little bit, I'm sure.
