Liberty University loosens dress code
LYNCHBURG, Virginia (AP) -- Capri pants and flip-flops will be fine in class but shorts will remain forbidden as school starts next week at Liberty University, the college founded by the Rev. Jerry Falwell.
Students were notified of the more relaxed campus dress code by e-mail. As recently as five years ago, men were required to wear ties at the university and women had to wear long skirts or dresses.

This was our top news story at 6 last night Now they can finally choose what they want to wear. But they still have curfew at 10:30 or something like that. But now they have a computer lab that is 24 hours that they can access with a special pass
I'm glad I went to a school that treated me like an adult and didn't babysit me
/rant (sorry, I work with all Liberty alumni)

I guess that day the students decided to protest by taking their pennies out of their loafers and puting a little wimple in their ties paid off....

"Things are changing, so even in the business world people are more casual," he said. "I'm in music, so even if I was working in a job, I wouldn't wear a suit and tie most days."
Personally I salute them for taking the initiative and making the change. After reading the threads about BJU and the other Baptist College that have crazy rules and ridiculously strict dress codes, it's nice to see that an evangelical school realizes that change is inevitable and is trying to find a middle ground between what it thinks is right and what it's students want.

It's their school, it's a private university, those people chose to go to school there, why should we care about what they wear? I mean honestly?

I actually looked into Liberty University. For such a christian university they were the rudest people I have ever met. I went for a weekend where you live with someone in the dorms and find out about the school. Well I was only there for a couple of hours and went and got a hotel room and lef the next day. The girl that iI was suposed to stay with ignored me and left me in her room by myself. It was horrible. My dad called and yellled at them and they still to this day send me stuff in the mail about registering... Now that I look back, I am glad I didn't go there, I don't think I could put up with all of the rules they have.

Ha ha ha...I started getting stuff from Liberty (I don't even consider myself Christian, let alone SBC) pretty early in my junior year. They'd call. My mother would tell them I wasn't interested. By the end of first semester of senior year, I had gotten into my first choice college (probably the polar opposite of Liberty), and I told them. The horror in the representative's voice as I told him I was headed to the epicenter of Northeastern liberalism was priceless.

A girl from the church I grew up in was starting at Liberty when I was a Junior in college I think, which makes her a recent grad. I'd love to find out her opinion on this dress code change.
The old dress code (and the new one too I guess) isn't so weird if you've grown up with similar fashion choices, or to be more general, similar values.
