Patty Duke dies at 69

The kids today know her mainly as Sean Astin's mom, but she left her mark as Patty and Cathy Lane, Helen Keller, and Neely O'Hara.

And yet again, the local library already has her death noted (with videos and books) in its Newly Dead Celebrities display area, among the Nancy Reagan and Pat Conroy items.

So sad. As I was growing up, many people would tell me I could be her twin. I loved watching her. She really had a rough life and seem to come out on the other end as a very happy woman, mother, wife, grandmother.

Valley of the Dolls is one of my favorite "so bad it's good" movies. Patty was embarrassed by it for years but finally allowed herself to be in on the joke.

She was the same age as Alan Rickman and David Bowie.
