Kids Television

So, maybe some of you parents can sympathize, but kids television is just TERRIBLE these days.

Banned in our house simply for stupidity: Sponge Bob, Adventure Time, Angry Oranges, and Regular Show

Banned for inappropriateness: Victorious It's aimed at pre-teen, but one episode a character talks about not being able to get her boobs in the costume and in another a girl hugs a guy and the guy pushes her away and says "Don't start something you can't finish". We haven't banned iCarly, but all these shows the kids are sassy and the adults irresponsible when there even are adults present.

Looney Tunes & Scooby Doo have revamped themselves into over sexualized drama-mongers. Bugs is a jerk, Daffy is a free-loader, Porky is a co-dependant, Speedy is a hawker, and Lola us flat out ridiculous. Fred, Daphne, Velma and Shaggy always have relationship drama.

I do have to say that I really like Phineas and Ferb. Other than that, what the heck? I know I've gone overboard with my show banning in some peoples' minds, but why can we just go back to Coyote falling off a cliff and Jerry bashing Tom's face in with a frying pan? Yeah, it's "violent", but it's slapstick that people understand is for humor. Ugh.

If it makes you feel better, both iCarly and Victorious have been cancelled.

I don't like most of the "tween" shows on the Disney channel because they all make the parents look like total idiots.

We mainly stick to movies at my house since with three boys playing various sports, we aren't home much- so it's hard for them to get sucked into a particular show.

But Phineaus and Ferb is one that I don't mind. Probably because the person that voices Ferb is the boy from Love Actually, and the voice of Vanessa is "Joanna" from Love Actually.

Seconded. It's why we don't have cable or satellite. Only streamed content in our house.

I co-sign the stupid children's TV, especially on Disney. The parents are all aloof and stupid. The lessons learned come off super corny (not even like Full House corny, but just... its different) and the children ALWAYS outsmart the parents. Makes me wonder if child services should come for them.

The Suite Life is one example, and the one with Kyle Massey? Yeah. I think the shows are cute, but super silly and unrealistic.

Yep. This is my problem with them.

One show these highschoolers live in Hollywood, but just decide to drive to San Diego by themselves? On a school night? That would have been like me taking a random trip to Chicago...I would have been toast when I got home.

Yep, and we usually enjoyed watching iCarly with the kids. Never did get Phineas and Ferb.

But life is good -- lately my kids have been asking to watch Fawlty Towers. Too bad there are only 12 episodes.

My kids are really into nature shows these days. They'll watch something and then see if they can find whatever it was that was featured on the show (whales, cougars, pythons, you name it) in our back yard.

America's Funniest Home Videos reruns are among their favorites, too.

I take back what I said about my kids not being into one particular show.

My 5yr old is ADDICTED to Star Wars The Clone Wars. I refer to him as the "nerdling"- I even took him down to GenCon this year to see all the people dressed in Star Wars garb. He was in heaven. He has also watched the original three Star Wars movies so many times that he wore out the dvds.

As all of you know, I have 2 g-daughters in K & 3rd grade.

They love Big Time Rush. It makes me want to stab myself.

I couldn't even believe how bad it was when I babysat this summer. I don't know if I even want a tv in the house when I have my babies!

I have a 5 year old and a 3 year old. Somehow I have managed to shield them from all the crap TV. They watch PBS, mostly good shows like Super Why that are not only productive/educational but don't annoy me to no end. Beyond that, the 5 year old likes to watch SportsCenter, First Pitch, and any sporting event. The 3 year old will stream shows like Angelina Ballerina and Strawberry Shortcake on the iPad. Since we only allow 1 hour of TV a day, their choices are quite tolerable at this point.

However, I dread when they actually discover that our TV has Nickelodeon and the Disney channel. My limited exposure with both of those channels has been nothing but trash. We may do away with TVs once they hit the tween years!

I know this is about bad shows, but I love Olivia and Lazytown.

Don't like SpongeBob.

I also have a 4 year old nephew.

With that said, my God. How is Caillou still on the air?

It may possibly be the single most annoying children's show on TV.
