Missing Girl Named Courtney found in Baltimore, maybe from Brooklyn
All Alone
Inside Edition has a tragic story out of Baltimore today where child welfare officials are trying to find the family of a little girl named Courtney. They don’t know her last name, they don't know who her parents are, but as Inside Edition reports, what they do know is she's a sweet little girl who at the moment is very much alone.
Anyone with information that might be useful should call the Baltimore Department of Social Services at 410-361-2235.

Teach toddlers their basic information...please!
This is important because this child does NOT know her last name.

SororDean asked me this morning if I had heard about this (of course I did - via GC !). I don't know where she got the information from, and I haven't heard anything else about the little doll, but SororDean understands that she is Hispanic and that she was saying over and over "I want my mommy!" She said that she would take the little one home with her in a heartbeat. I'm sure many others feel the same way.

I saw the report on Inside Edition yesterday. Yes, the little girl kept crying and saying, "I want my mommy." That's so sad. All the little girl knows is that she is from Brooklyn.
This guy who is her 'father' went to cash money orders, but never returned. They supposedly had been living in a warehouse.
Odd. Strange.

I wouldn't be surprised if she knows the lyrics to popular music and doesn't know her last name. This is normal for kids these days.
Like I said in the other forum, she is a little cutie and I wish I could claim her. Poor little thing. If no one claims her I am sure a good family will step up to adopt her. (The word claim makes her sound like a piece of property. I couldn't think of another word to use)

My theory:
The father abducted her from the mother, then changed his mind about taking care of her and left her with stangers. Father may have killed or injured mother.
As for her not knowing her last name--the parents may have tried to influence her to use different last names--his and hers. Also if she is Latina then the naming protocol is different.

No excuses...IMO
So "their" protocol dictates that you abandon your child? If you know your child is "missing" you do not notify anyone?

My theory is that the mother probably couldn't/didn't want to take care of her anymore, so she abandoned her at her dad's. The dad, then decided he doesn't want her either and left her with a stranger. Neither parent wants the child.
Her not knowing her last name is not throwing me. I think it is just a case of bad parenting/neglect. The fact that her hair looks freshly braided IS throwing me. Someone cared enough to dress her up a little, so the abandonment is throwing me off. I hope someone comes forward soon.

No I meant the naming protocol which could be why she doesn't know or may be confused about her last name.

From WUSA-TV 9 in DC:
Someone who identified herself as a relative
of the three-year-old girl abandoned in Baltimore is on the way to the city to meet with social services workers.
The relative saw a photo of Courtney, who says she's from Brooklyn, New York, and contacted the city Department of Social Services.

I think she has been in foster care for a week or two. The foster fam or social services may have dressed her up for the news / publicity.
