My recruitment story! :)
Hey guys! I'm new here, but figured I would share my recruitment story. I transferred from a school with a mid sized (350ish girls), not-so-competitive recruitment (no recs needed) to a SEC school with a difficult rush and the complete opposite from where I was. The school I transferred to is really close to where I grew up, so I knew people, but hardly any greek women. Long story short, I rushed at my first school, but didn't really feel like I would feel at home in greek life there, so gave it another shot at the SEC school...and ended up LOVING recruitment...so here's my story.
Round 1 :
Desperate Housewives- These girls were dolled up in pink dresses and were all smiles...but seemed so nervous. The girl that grabbed me was really sweet, but our conversation was really awkward and seemed almost forced. I'm not sure if it's because it was my first house or because she was nervous. This wasn't a house I was initally interested in before rush started, but with me being a sophomore at a SEC school, I knew I had to keep an open mind. Needless to say, I didn't hate the party, but I didn't love it either.
One Tree Hill- This house had me smiling from the start. All the girls were so pretty, and their house was really contemporary and I loved the decor. The first girl that came to talk to me and a lot in common with me. We randomly started talking about our celebrity crushes and it turned out that I had actually met hers, so she was really excited about that and told a few of her other sisters. I really liked the other 2 girls I spoke too and left the house really liking this chapter!
Lost- Prior to rush all I knew about this house was that they took a lot of out of state girls (looking back I wouldn't say it was as many as I thought). My great aunt had been the president of her Lost chapter, so I was definitely interested in them, and knew I had a good rec sent in for this house. These girls were so loud and enthusiastic which was great, but they were a little bit intimidating in that they were all so beautiful and dressed in such cute outfits. I was paired with a girl who was really sweet, but I found myself being really nervous with her...thankfully they passed the PNMs to other Lost sisters very frequently, so I met at least 5 other sisters during this round. The girls really seemed to like me, and I liked them a lot too. I left really loving this party!
Greek- This house had a lot of tent talk...it seemed like most girls end up really liking them. One of my good friends was in Greek and had just graduated, so this was the house I was most looking forward to visiting. I knew I was going to love the party...but it turned out not being as great as I expected. The girls were sweet, but I didn't feel a strong connection with them. We talked about the same old stuff (me being a sophomore, my major, ect) but nothing special. I still had a feeling (going off of what my Greek friend was like) that if I pledged Greek I would really like it, so they were still at the top of my list.
House- House had well...my favorite house. Their house was gorgeous on the outside. I loved how it looked! I knew they were popular during rush, and my friend was a House at another school, so I wanted to make a good impression. But, during their song I started to get almost annoyed by them. Their song was cute, but their little dance moves were not...well, classy. The girl who picked me up was sweet (as always) and we talked about stuff that wasn't the normal random questions about the university. The tent talk and reputation made me want to give them a 2nd chance, but I knew I wouldn't mind if I didn't come back the next day.
Gossip Girl- Now, I know pre-conceived notions about rush arent good, but I knew ahead of time that I absolutely would not fit in this house. Sure, their what many would consider a "top" tier house, but I was pretty sure I would be miserable here. It was even pouring outside while we were waiting to go into the party...and I took that as another sign I would not like it at Gossip Girl. At the party, this house passed us around more than Lost did...I think I met about 14 girls at that party. I think I only had a conversation with one girl because they were so concerned about me meeting as many sisters as possible...it was really uncomfortable. So, as expected, I didn't care if I got an invite back or if I did. It just did not feel right at all.
Glee- These girls seemed very shy when the rush song started. They weren't very loud at all. I talked to a very nice girl and we definitely clicked. I knew nothing about Glee before this party, but I left wanting to come back. I also loved their philanthropy, as it dealt with a passion of mine.
Project Runway- This house was one of the loudest ones we had visited yet, and their song was super catchy. They were all gorgeous and were dressed super trendy. The girl that pulled me was hilarious and we had the same major (which is odd to find among greek women I've found) and I really loved her. She introduced me to her roommates who I also had good conversations with. This house also had a lot of tent talk and I knew it was a top house...I left really hoping I would get invited back, but knew I may not since I was a sophomore and a lot of the freshman really liked Project Runway.
Grey's Anatomy- This was one house out of 3 where I actually knew an active member in. They were really loud and had a catchy song as well. The first girl I talked to was not good with conversations. We didn't have much in common, and I don't even remember what we talked about or what the other girls I met looked like. The girls I spoke with didn't leave much of an impression, but because my friend who was a Grey's was really outgoing, I figured it was just nerves and didn't hold it against them. I left knowing I wouldnt cut them, but wasn't feeling like I was a shoe in for an invite back.
Scrubs- The girl I spoke with was involved with an organization I really wanted to be involved in too. She was sweet and we had some things in common, but that's all I remember about this party. The party was just okay to me.
Smallville- this sorority wore all blue and had decorations to go along with their mascot. The sisters I spoke to didn't ask me the traditional questions which was nice, but it all seemed a bit awkward to me.
True Blood- This was another house I was really looking forward to visiting. Two of my cousins are current True Bloods and I knew their reputation and it sounded like I would fit in. The True Bloods were the typical sweet southern belles you would find in the SEC. The girl that pulled me knew that I was their cousin and introduced me to some of her close friends. They treated me like they were really interested in getting to know me, and I knew I was really liking True Blood so far. I liked the girls a lot, and knew I wanted to come back the next day.
Entourage- I knew nothing about this house before rush, but the girls seemed really down to earth and genuine. The first girl I spoke with was so pretty and I really like her, and she even rushed as a sophomore which I was really excited about since I was worried that would hurt my chances at several houses. I left feeling like I would definitely be seeing her the next day.
Chuck- One of my friends is a Chuck, but the girl I spoke with was really really nervous, and we didn't know what to say to each other. I don't really remember this party at all, but even though they werent a top pick among PNMs, I didnt mind if they invited me back because my friend was in it. However, she was considering dropping, which kind of made me weary of potentially pledging.
American Idol- My best friend was a sister at this house, but ended up hating it and dropped her second year. The girls though seemed like that really liked me, so I didn't really care what happened in terms of invites.
90210- This house was full of the typical blonde sorority girls. I was skeptical going in, but I really liked the girl I talked to. She seemed to really love me too and even said "I love when I meet a girl during rush and actually have a great conversation with her." But I was nervous that she was the only one I talked to when other PNMs had met more sisters...I didnt know if that was a bad or good thing.
Heroes- again a house where I knew a girl...but only 1. The girls seemed really laid back and chill and I really liked them. They were cute and trendy and I had stuff in common with the girls I spoke with, and I felt like I would be coming back to Heroes the next day!
At the end of the day... after going off the girls I talked to at the parties... I cut the following houses (we rank our bottom five with number 1 being the house we would most like an invite from if our top 12 didnt invite us back)
1. Scrubs
2. Chuck
3. American Idol
4. Smallville
5. Desperate Housewives.

And if I didn't, I wouldn't be able to walk the next day, or make any sort of conversation.
I'm hoping the OP just condensed the 18 parties into one post & didn't mention that the parties were over two days. Because I shudder to think what the actives were like if they had to do that many parties in one day. Not pretty.

haha nooo I definitely clumped it all in 1 day, but we split round 1 over 2 days. I would have died otherwise.

The next day when I went into to pick up my list of invites, I went in knowing that I needed to keep an open mind and expect heavy cuts since I was rushing as a sophomore and since a lot of the houses I had loved from round 1 were houses that a lot of girls sought after during rush. So, here’s what my list said…
- Smallville
- One Tree Hill
- Chuck
- True Blood
- Scrubs
- Project Runway
- Glee
- Desperate Housewives
- Lost
- American Idol
- Grey’s Anatomy
- No party
I was super bummed to see that I didn’t have a full schedule, but also knew that not having a full one would probably be the case. I think I was more bummed that houses like Heroes, Entourage, Greek, and 90210 didn’t invite me back. I thought for sure that I connected well with the girls and I would see them during round 2. Regardless, I was so happy with my invites as many of my favorites were on the list!
Round 2
Smallville- The girls we sweet, but I realized early on that we had no connection. The conversations were sort of awkward, and I think it was kind of a mutual feeling that I would not fit in at this chapter.
One Tree Hill- I was really excited to go back to this house because of how much I loved their party during the first round. I talked to a girl who was kind of sporty, and the opposite of the girls I spoke with the other day, but I still really liked her. I knew I was hoping to come back for round 3!
Chuck- I didn’t love the first party I had there, but this party was a lot better. My friend happened to jump in line so she could pick me up and introduce me to some of her sisters. We had a really good conversation, but I think that’s because I already knew her and there wasn’t a lot of pressure or nerves. I loved getting to talk with her, but I still thought that I would be happier at another house.
True Blood- I was so excited that I got an invite back to True Blood and had been looking forward to this party all day. The girls looked perfectly put together as they did during round 1 and I was picked up by a girl who had some things in common with me. The problem was that this girl was very quiet and couldn’t hold a conversation well. She told me her sister was a True Blood also and we talked about some campus activities we were involved in, but it was so hard to keep the conversation going and I felt like I was the one asking all of the questions because she was so quiet. I was really nervous when the party ended that because we didn’t click well that I wouldn’t be invited back. I was just hoping that the other girls I talked to liked me enough to keep me.
Scrubs- Like True Blood, I was picked up with a girl who wasn’t good at keeping the conversation going. We couldn’t find a common interest to talk about, and I knew I would be okay if I didn’t get an invite back to Scrubs.
Project Runway- This was another house I was really excited to visit...but it seemed like all of the other PNMs were super excited too. I was picked up by a girl who was the opposite of the girl I spoke to during round 1. She was super sweet though, and she introduced me to some of the seniors in the chapter and I liked them a lot too. I was starting to love this chapter more and more and was hoping I would come back the next round.
Glee- The girl who picked me up had the same name as I do, so I hoped that would help me stand out to her. She was really sweet and we talked about the different social and date nights Glee usually has and she introduced me to her roommate and the girl I had spoken with the day before. I still liked Glee, but my feelings about them hadn’t changed since round 1.
Desperate Housewives- These girls seemed to love me. I don’t even remember what we talked about because it was so hard to get a word in…it was kind of awkward too because I knew that I felt like I would be much happier at another house, but could tell that they were really hoping I wouldn’t cut them. It was odd for me to have one feeling about them and them to have another about me.
Lost- The girls looked super cute and trendy just as they did before and I met with the same girl as round 1. She passed me around to a bunch of girls again and we talked about socials and date nights too. I really liked all of the girls I spoke too, and at the end they introduced me to their chapter president. I knew I wanted to come back for round 3, but was nervous because there was a lot of tent talk on Lost.
American Idol- The girl I got this time was much easier to talk to than the first time. She was really sweet and we talked about decorating our rooms and stuff like that. But, I still couldn’t help but think that maybe since my friend had not felt at home here and dropped that maybe I wouldn’t either.
Grey’s Anatomy- I was surprised I was invited back here, but was really happy about it too. The girls looked so excited and really pumped for the party to start. The girl who picked me up was such a sweet, southern belle. We talked about how funny some of the composites were and I had started to like this house a lot more. Plus, knowing that my friend was a Grey’s was a plus because I knew how much she loved it.
So, at the end of the day I ranked my bottom 5 again…
- American Idol
- Chuck
- Desperate Housewives
- Scrubs
- Smallville

So for round 3 we could go to up to 6 parties. My invites were...
1. Lost
2. One Tree Hill
3. Desperate Housewives
4. American Idol
5. Grey's Anatomy
6. Project Runway
Lost- I was really glad I was invited back, the girl that talked to me kept saying something about "going with a sorority that's fighting to have you there." I can't remember what we talked about, but I remember that I liked her and her friends. The PNMs around me seemed to like their party too.
One Tree Hill- Their party this round wasn't very good, but I had loved the previous rounds with them so I didn't want to hold it against them. Some of the PNMs seemed to feel the same way, too. Like lost, I don't really remember much about this party.
Desperate Housewives- The girl that I spoke with here was so quiet and we had absolutely nothing in common. It was really awkward to say the least because we couldn't find much to talk about. She talked a little about her sisters and he experiences in DH, but that was about it.
American Idol- I liked this party more than their other parties because you could tell how much the sisters loved AI, but I had already gotten the feeling from days before that this wouldn't be my best fit. The sisters were funny this round and seemed to be having a lot of fun, though.
Grey's Anatomy- Another house I was excited to see on my invite list. The sisters I talked to were hilarious and really outgoing. This was the first time I started to realize that I could see myself as a Grey's. All of the PNMs really loved the party after it was over, and although at first I kept thinking they would cut me, I was really glad Grey's had kept inviting me back.
Project Runway- I was really excited to go to this party. The sisters were even more hilarious than the Grey's girls and the party was so much fun. I really liked the girl I talked to the most. Afterwards there was a lot of tent talk like Grey's...but I enjoyed this party a lot more than the others during this round. I was just hoping I could pref with PR.
At the end of the day I ranked the 6 houses as follows...
1. Project Runway
2. One Tree Hill
3. Grey's Anatomy
4. Lost
5. American Idol
6. Desperate Housewives
