wisdom

i just had my wisdom teeth out on tuesday the 30th and i am hating this. i think i would have been wiser to keep them in. it hurts like hell!! i just need to complain for a couple minutes because i am trying to act like a big tough girl and not complain to my roommate or parents or his parents for that matter!!

they gave me 4 rxes...vicodin, a mouthwash, med dose steriod pack for swelling and penicillion....i have never taken vicodin before tuesday and it isnt even working. i am better off to not take it and just pop some advil!! the med dose pack made me sick i think! i threw up 3 times yesterday and had an upset tummy ALL day yesterday...so now i am just using the antibiotic cause i do NOT want an infection and just using the mouthwash cause my mouth is gross....

i am all brusied up and still can barely eat. i was eating applesauce and jello but after throwing that all up it is not so appitizing any more. any other suggestions of good soft food to eat?!? i am starving!!

and i spent my new year's eve at home and was in bed by 12:30 and around 1:00 was on my way to pick up my drunk friend...go figure!!

so yeah..i am done complaining! thanks for listening to me....

Well at least you only had one set. They're gone now. The recovery process isn't too long.

Also try. . .

Instant mashed potatoes. Not particularly appetizing, but it is soft. And don't be alarmed if you start swelling - it's normal after a day or so.

If you smoke, don't during this period. You can get dry socket which I understand hurts more than your current recovery process!

I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed (at the same time), and the best part was the pain medication! Popped a couple of them every 4-6 hours or so, and sleep was oh so sweet!

That's what I did, too! My doctor was cool enough to actually keep me in the hospital overnight, on a pain killer drip. My face was packed in ice, and everytime I came to, I just said, "More drugs." Within 24 hours, I went home, and had no brusing, swelling, or pain! More doctors should go for this method!

If I remember, I ate a lot of jello and tea - liquids, mostly.

when i got my teeth pulled last year, it was awful. it sucked drooling all over the place and not feeling anything touching your mouth. i cried cause i thought i looked terrible and disgusting. the medicine made me sick so i stopped taking it. i ate a lot of Motts apple sauce. actually i ate so much that now if i even smell the sauce or apple juice, i get really sick to my stomach cause i am reminded of my teeth being pulled.

how's this for a disturbing story- while my teeth were being pulled, i woke up for about 2 or 3 seconds. it was just in time to hear one of my teeth cracking. i found out later that it was because my dentist could not get one of the them out, so he had to break it in half.

the whole ordeal was actually my second attempt. when i was 16, i was going to get them pulled. i even made it all the way to the chair and the dentist was about to put a gas mask on me. that is when i lost it. i cried my head off. the second time around was easier cause i was older and my bf was by my side.

that must be nice! they gave me vicodin and it is not working at all. i had all four of mine pulled at the same time too and i started that vicodin that day and did not sleep once! it hurt just the same whether i was taking the pills or not! really not cool...advil is working better than the stupid vicodins!! i slept some yesterday but i think it was just cause my tummy hurt so bad that it was better to sleep than to be awake...if that makes sense...

blah....the worst part is that i can feel the stitches on the left side and it is gross...i just want to pull them out cause it feels like hair back there!! ew ew ew ew ew ew ew ew ew ew ew!!!!!!

Ok. From a person who has had three teeth pulled and a broken kneecap, let me tell you that you need something stronger if the Vicodin isn't working. Make sure and tell your dentist. When the kneecap was broken, I was started on Vicodin. But, after that didn't work at the highest dosage (10 mg), they moved me up to Oxycodone. That did the trick. I am not dispensing any kind of professional medical advice here, but they usually give it in 3 dosages: 5, 7.5, and 10. Have you considered calling your doc to see if you can up the amount you are taking each dose?

I can tell you if you are sick at your stomach, it MAY be the vicodin you took. I have to have an anti-nausea drug when I take any kind of pain medicine.

Teeth can REALLY hurt. But, the kneecap was the worst pain I have ever felt.

If your doc is in tomorrow, call him!!! The medicine he prescribed isn't working. There's no reason for you to be in so much pain because his prescriptions weren't strong enough. But, he won't know unless you call.

I had the same thing happen....because they couldn't get an IV in me (the nurses and the dentist tried about 6 times per arm) they did the whole thing on nitrious oxide and novacaine...well, as soon as I'd pass out, I'd start breathing from my mouth by habit (I'm a singer, I always breath through my mouth) and wake up.

If your looking for a variety of soft foods, try baby food.....hey, don't laugh, some of it is yummy...just don't get the stupid nature-lock no sugar added...it's gross.

Scrambled eggs? I think my mom used to be able to eat those on Atkins.

Also, if you live near a Wal-Mart supercenter, I just noticed that they are now carrying Atkins meals, etc.
Or, look on the internet for Atkins products like soup or something else they offer specifically for the diet.

ETA: Chicken or beef broth perhaps?

I just had mine done in September. I was awake for the whole thing! When I went for my consultation I thought they were going to put me to sleep, so imagine my surprise when I got there and they hooked me up to the laughing gas. I was aware of what was going on throughout the entire procedure, and my bottom two were impacted and I could feel him cutting them out! It was the worst thing I've ever experienced in my entire life. I would NOT go through that ever again. I was bruised and swollen for days.

Now, as to what I ate, I didn't. I drank a lot of water and I don't think I ate anything until like two days afterwards. I know, you're supposed to eat food to take the pain medicine with, but I just didn't. When I did start eating I ate chocolate pudding, applesauce and ice cream, and of course lots of brothy soup. The first solid food I moved to was spaghetti, and I cut that up into teeny tiny bites and pretty much just swallowed, not chewed. It took me about 6 weeks before I could open my mouth wide enough to eat a hamburger. I thought my doctor had screwed up somehow! For the first two weeks after the surgery, I couldn't open my mouth wide enough to floss. It sucked!

I feel your pain and hope you have a speedy recovery!

what about eating pudding? ice cream, chicken broth, rice, bananas....

i am sorry the vicadin isn't working! definately talk to you doctor and see if he can give you something else. i really liked the vicadin. i woke up every four hours, ate a pork chop and some butter and dill potatoes and took a vicadin. i know i was supposed to eat mushy stuff, but i was soooo hungry. within the hour after i got home, i ate some plain macaroni. i thretened to call child protective services because my mom told me i couldn't have anything to eat. needless to say, i was over 18 and really whacked out on the medicine, but she felt bad because i was crying so hard that she gave me some food anyway.

Not my wisdom teeth but when I was in 1st grade I had 10, that's right 10, baby teeth pulled out all at the same time.
And because I was good about the whole thing I got a bunny!
Teeth pulling scares me to death...
When I first had my tounge pierced I had similar food issues. Ate a lot of soft french fries and pasta.

i dont know if it is really worth it to call the dr now that i am pretty much over the pain....i have been taking advil and that helps a little....it doesnt hurt anymore like the first night...i was crying cause it hurt soooooo much!!! and i am pretty toleratant of pain let me tell you!!

i havent had anything else to drink except water and that is fine with me....i just have to pee a lot and that sucks!! i went to my roommate's parents house for dinner tonight and had 3 potatoes and a tiny slice of the this cake his mom made. it was really yummy food (they are Icelandic and it was traditional food for them) but it took me forever to just eat the potatoes!

6 weeks before you could open your mouth fully?!?! i hope that is not the case!! that is gross!! i have a cleaning appt on monday with my normal dentist that i think i am gonna cancel just cause of this....grrr...6 weeks is a really long time!!

i want this to be over!!
