Sigma Nu Sweetheart/White Rose Queen
If any of you guys have Sweethearts (we call them White Rose Queens) do you let them wear letters? Our current Sweetheart is an AOII who does SO MUCH extra stuff for our chapter from baking cookies, helping plan socials with her sorority, comes to every rush event, helps us clean up the house, etc etc. You can usually find her studying in our dining room too.
She's wanted letters, and since she's in a sorority understands she'll never know what they truly mean. She reasons that she knows what they mean to HER and that's enough.
Of course in The Law of Sigma Nu it explicitly states who is allowed to wear our badge....but there is no mention of letters. I've seen some chapters let any old female wear them at events and other chapters like mine are steadfast in the idea that ONLY brothers should wear them.
What do you all think?

Have you all considered either the Sweetheart's Pin or the Miniature Badge as options? Neither are expensive and, as a former Sweetheart myself, I know that she would appreciate the gesture.

Badge or Crest on a shirt, never.
Letters, yes.

At Zeta Kappa (Fresno) we only the women who can wear our badge wear our letters.....the sweetheart included. One thing that we hate more is seeing other girls who aren't sweethearts or one of the women who can wear our badge walking around wearing OUR letters. Along with the badge our letters are something we hold dear to us, something we EARNED the right to wear. So I'd say let her wear the letters, but noone else. Just my opinion

For some reason here, the letters on a shirt just aren't really important. I mean shoot, greek life freakin makes a formal rush shirt with all the GLO's letters on the back. I know that would be an abomination at some schools.
Another question, when do y'all elect sweethearts? We do it at the end of the fall, and my brothers keep voting in outgoing seniors, so we don't have a sweetheart for the fall because they graduate in the previous spring.

We do ours right before our White Rose Formal...which is usually mid May.

Definitely get her the sweethearts pin located on on the Sigma nu website.
http://www.sigmanu.com/store/hqstore/
Miniature Initiate Badge (used for pinning, sweetheart's pin, etc.)27.00
Sweetheart Pin (for sweethearts, mother, sisters)8.00
Also screen printed rush shirts would be fine as long as they weren't the double stitched or appliqué letters.
NEVER our badge or the double stitched or appliqué letters
Just my feeling on it.

When your organization is as old as ours is, and where most chapters have been left to their own devices on things like this, to lay ground rules at this point would seem arbitrary and capricious. Further, you'd be asking chapters to eliminate long standing traditions.
Formal rules for sweethearts?
I'm agin' it.

Sorry to crash, well a month after the original post, but anyhow...I was a Sigma Nu sweetheart to my now husband's chapter and at their formal they presented me with a sweatshirt that had letters - black with white background and gold overlay. Underneath was stiched "sweetheart". I didn't even go to their school, but I guess I impressed the heck out of my husband's bros with my cooking, mad foreign language skills( ), sarcasm and bad jokes.
I have to say, I was very touched by the gesture. My husband never let me wear his letters until he knew for sure (from what he says) that I was the "one". He came back from grand chapter and gave me a lavalier with your letters in it. Yeah, that's right my Sigma Nu is awesome.

I'd say its fine for a sweetheart to wear letters, given they are permitted to wear the badge.
Whats wrong with jerseys? I honestly wasn't aware there was an "anti-jersey" movement at some schools. My chapter is 95 years old this year and have jerseys along with every other chapter on campus. Judging from our photo albums, they seem to have begun to evolve from yellow t-shirts with black letters on them in the 70s to the more stylized jerseys today.

WE may be talking about different things. Letters are fine. I'm talking about "jerseys". Like a football Jersey looking thing with the crest on the front, or some odd stylized letters. I'll have to find some pics.

According to The Law of Sigma Nu Fraternity, Inc. a sweetheart is not one of the authorized badge wearers.
As a matter of fact I've never read any OFFICIAL rules, information, etc about sweethearts (other than they are not to be part of some little sis program).

Hi guys, I'm a sweetheart. I got a sweetheart pin this year at formal(along with 2 other girls). Well about the whole letters thing, the chapter bought us the sweetheart pins and we are suppose to wear them at cocktails, formals and prefrence dinners(formal/semi-formal occasions). They are also getting us sweatshirts that spell out Sigma Nu and underneath it says sweetheart.
On another note, my boyfriend who is EC this year, is buying me my own set of letters but they are really really small like 2 inches. They arent the traditional type of letters the actives get. We are allowed to wear their letters if they offer them to us. were just not allowed to have our own set of Big letters, and we didnt ask either cause we know that they worked really hard for those letters. My boys are kinda funny about the whole letters thing, so unless we are offered letters we dont ask, we dont want to step on their toes. We are really honored just to be sweethearts.
