Do you think junior year is to late to "go greek?" Assuming that you have been here, won't people wonder why you didn't decide to earlier?

Also does anyone know anything about leaving a sorority before initation, and wanting to start over with a new one?

at my school it isn't too late. in my pledge class we had a junior and it was spring so she only had one year being an active member. it just depends on your school. My school is nothing compared to the super competitive schools down south so juniors have a better chance where I go.

My chapter pledged a junior this spring (so she's a senior now), and we also pledged a senior last fall during formal recruitment. It really depends on your school and the chapters there.

If you leave a sorority before you are initiated, you cannot pledge another for one calendar year.

If you leave a sorority after you are initiated, you cannot pledge another one EVER.

You're a junior (I assume this is for you) so you should have a pretty good idea of what each sorority is like.

I left a sorority that I was pledging my freshman year (spring) before iniatation, so based on that I would be able to pledge again?
I go to PSU, we have a lot of sororities, I'm just afraid if i spend the money and go through formal recruitment no one is going to want me because It soemthing I should have done earlier. like i kinda regret not goign greek, but at the same time that first sororities wasn't working for me.

You do indeed have a lot of sororities.

It's only $25 to register for recruitment. That isn't a lot, believe me, especially for such a big Greek system. You won't know if you would have gotten a bid unless you try and $25 is a pittance compared to saying "if only/I'll never know" for the rest of your college career/life.

I've kind of been in your shoes, Megan.

I pledged an NPC sorority my freshman year but was not initiated. (different circumstances than yours) Then I pledged my sorority, Kappa Delta, as a Junior.

I don't know what the general feeling is towards Juniors at PSU but I think you should give it a shot. I wouldn't bring up the first sorority unless someone asks you about it. If they do ask, remember not to say anything negative about the sorority. "It wasn't the right fit" is sufficient.

Good luck.

OP, Is there any way you could change your userid? It looks like your name and birthdate which would be a huge identifier.

She's already been a member for almost a year.

Also, I think you underestimate the number of college-age Megans.

I was thinking the exact same thing, esp now that she has given away her school and her past at depledging!

If you think you can handle the possibility of disappointment ONE MORE TIME, I say go for it.

If you can't, don't bother wasting your time.

Some of this depends on your campus.

The idea that you will be identified by your user name is plausible but I'm very certain nobody from my Greek system would ever put it together. And, if they did, all they'd see is that you have valid concerns.

Go out for recruitment. If you get a bid, they like you. If you allow yourself to fit in and you enjoy it, be initiated. The fun of joining late is that you still have energy to be active when you graduate.

And get some confidence going. You're an asset, not a liability. A chapter benefits from someone with more maturity and experience than the average freshman. And you can even help the young ones navigate through the recruitment process.
