Fraternity Pledges Set Selves on Fire During Activity

This is one of the most unbelievable things I've ever seen. I have been on membership review groups and have heard some things that would shock the average person. This is beyond words.

https://newschannel9.com/news/local/...ooga-tennessee

"Through an open records request, we received the investigative report centering around a University of Tennessee at Chattanooga fraternity and two pledges who lit themselves on fire.

It's an incident that one of those students calls a "life-altering wake-up call". The fraternity is the Alpha-Iota Chapter of Kappa Sigma, and the report details "both overt and subtle pressure to comply with these hazardous rituals."

That's despite the fact that the two students who were burned, as well as Chapter leaders, claim their participation was voluntary."

FYI- "Hazing" cannot be a "voluntary" action.

Every time an idiocy like this occurs I think: “DO THESE FOOLS NEVER LEARN”????
AS a 25+ year advisor, it’s both terrifying and disheartening. And sadly, it makes me question our very validity as fraternal organizations.

No matter HOW MUCH emphasis we put on Risk Management and the dangers of hazing—one of these pops up.

One answer: NO SECOND CHANCES
Chapter closed PERMANENTLY, open door and university assistance regarding any lawsuits against members and chapter, and ANY brothers involved REMOVED FROM SCHOOL with no chance to re-enroll.

That’s a start.
