I was more thinking of him in Coyote Ugly...same type role, the "runaway bad-boy" thing, but I'm just imagining him singing... You could easily fake "Dancing Through Life", but "As Long As You're Mine" would NOT be easy to fake your way through.

Did Phantom start at West End or on Broadway?

Broadway.

And I disagree with him being undeveloped. Especially if you read the book. He's got 100% more substance in the musical then the book. It's not a bit-part by any means, but there is some room as to how you play that role.

After going back and looking at pics of Adam, I've decided that it doesn't really matter anyway. He could stand there on the stage and let the musical happen around him, and the ladies wouldn't care one bit.

The musical is (in my opinion) at heart, a sweet story about female friendship. There are, of course, subplots concerning racism and propaganda, but to me, E&G's relationship is pretty much the meat of the story.

I've always considered Fiyero to be pretty lame. I dunno.
If you LOVED that the musical was a fluffy fairy tale DO NOT read the book, you will hate it. If you enjoyed the political/propaganda of the subplot, you'll love the book, because that's about the only part that stayed true.

Does anyone (and by anyone, I'm thinking I mean DA, but someone else might know) know if they are planning a London cast recording??

London Wicked!

Last night was the first preview of Wicked in London! Overall it sounds like it was a success with it compared to more like a rock concert which is completely unlike British theater audiences. However, there were a few glitches.

In the opening song, No One Mourns the Wicked, they got to the "Look! It's Glinda!" part yet there was no bubble or Glinda! They had to stop the show, lower the Oz map curtain and then restart from the beginning. But the audience was so into it that it didn't really matter.

Also the benches didn't come out in the first class scene with Dr. Dillamond. The students had to sit on the floor! The beds didn't come out in Popular either and had to be moved by stage hands.

Some mixed reviews for Helen Dallimore as Glinda. People who are used to Kristin's Glinda are having a hard time adjusting to Helen's take as a British upper class snob rather than a ditzy blonde.

OH and one guy got smacked by some moving lighting, blood everywhere and had to go to the "casualty ward." I hope that Idina takes care and doesn't have a repeat of her trap door incident.

Idina was welcomed with thunderous applause of course but also had some mixed reviews on her singing-although her No Good Deed was supposedly fantastic. I have not seen anything good about Adam Garcia as Fiyero though. I hope he steps it up a bit and gets into the role as the previews continue.

Madam Morrible is speaking her lines instead of singing them??

There were not a lot of changes to make it more British as some had speculated. Some reviews questioned the accents - Elphie is American, Boq is Scottish, The Wizard is American (but the actor is British) and the rest British, but oh well that doesn't really bother me.

That's all I can remember now but check out the Wicked blog by Martin Ball (Dr. Dillamond) I LOVE him! - http://www.wicked.lastminuteliving.com/

I really would like to see Wicked when it comes to Miami. I have already given big hints ...

I LOVED the book...

I haven't yet read the sequel but it is on my to read list.

I do agree that this a "book club" kinda book as in I wished I had someone to discuss it with after I finished it.

It got me very interested in the author Gregory Maguire...he has several dark sides of fairy tale books.

I have read both Mirror Mirror, and Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister...both follow the same dark, slightly twisted paths...but both are GREAT!

If you liked Wicked, I would DEFINETLY try some of the others...

Bumping this because I just YouTubed Adam Garcia in Wicked...

That boy best be glad that he's a hottie because the boy can't. sing.

He must be an amazing actor to pull Fieryo off with as bad as his singing is. In fact, unless it was just a really bad night, almost everyone in the video I was listening to were pretty bad. I know it's someone recording in the theater with probably pretty low-tech equipment...but low tech doesn't make someone off-key.

I looked for another video, and he was a tad more on key. He does fine on the staccato, fast sections, but I cringe anytime he has to hold a note more than two beats.

I'll be the first to admit that the music from Wicked is H.A.R.D. (I karaoked just about the entire score last weekend)...but when you're a professional, you're expected to AT LEAST be on key.

For some reason I thought it was the 23rd. We couldn't figure out why the tickets weren't available. So we hid in a back room on the computer when the 24 other family members were trying to take a family picture. Oops! I will be buying them at 12:01 on Friday!

This was the best musical I have ever seen. Beats Evita, Lion King, Evita, Chicago, Chorus Line...
Of course, I haven't seen Jersey Boys yet
