I don't see why it's necessary to go tip-toeing around not naming Alpha Phi. It has been mentioned several times before in this very, very long thread that the local sorority Alpha Psi has been wanting to affiliate with Alpha Phi for a long time. That's why they called themselves "Alpha PSI"
I don't see why that's taboo. Am I missing something?

I didn't realize it was Alpha Phi, but it seems logical. Phi, Psi not that much of a difference. They aren't a colony so maybe that's why. I really don't recall Alpha Phi being mentioned, but this thread is incredibly long.

I don't have time since I'm in exams, but if someone has the drive and desire, I think it would be really helpful to create a list of national non-NPC, non-NPHC sororities that people in Corina's position can refer to if they so desire. Maybe with links to websites and emails of expansion? For example, I've heard really great things about Theta Nu Xi. (Founded in North Carolina, too! ). There's also Omega Phi Alpha. And there are others (some of the mulitcultural, some of the academic-interest based, some of theme service based). Because I know that I personally know a lot about NPC, NIC, NPHC, and how their expansions work, but not as much about these sorts of groups or about NALFO groups.

There is a website called latinogreeks.com That has a list of all the non-NPC and non-NPHC sororities. If you're interested in Theta Nu Xi, then PM me and I'll get you in contact with the Director of Expansion.

Yet another reason I dislike Fraternity Life...
DOC had their first party with mtv last night (I think it was their first at least). Anyway, I heard it was lame and it got broken up super early. Why do I care? Because then all their people- although thankfully not DOC or MTV- showed up at my party. Not an NBO party, but at our house and all of my sisters and I invited people. So there's all this drama because we have a guest list, more or less, and people are trying to come in, the police end up showing up and slapping liz and i both with $165 citations. Yay lucky us. Theta Chi was there, which was fine, we invited them. They brought Alpha Psi- none of those girls were invited, but whatever. I do, however, think that they could have had the good grace to say hello or acknowledge that we knew eachother while they were at my house enjoying my party. Ugh the drama. I'm just bitter that our party, which was incredibly fun and impressive (I didn't realize we had the skills to throw such good parties) ended up causing so much drama. My landlords might be calling me this week, something I am scared shitless of. And some guy who lives down the street from me got his car totaled in a hit and run last night, and he came to my house this morning to get all my info because he feels that someone drove drunk after my party and hit his car. Which is entirely possible, although I was doing the best I could to make sure everyone had a DD. I've managed to convince myself that I'm going to get kicked out of my house and sued for the hit and run accident, even though I know that these are not likely (or perhaps even legally possible) situations. I did, however, meet some cool girls who wanted to know alot more about NBO, and we've been checking out some other multicultural sororities we might be interested in. So other than the party drama, things seem to be going well. More later, thanks for listening to me vent.

Corina here....
The landlord just left me a message regarding the party...he sounded suprisingly tolerant. He repeated many times that this can never happen again, but he didn't say anything mean or along the lines of kicking us out. And, we have 4 rushees right now! That's alot for us. I'm happy. More later.

Corina, check your PMs. I sent you something about the Coat of Arms.
Also, anyone in an argument with a girl can feel free to use the line: "check your pms."

So much news to tell....
I got an email today from the expansion coordinator at Theta Nu Xi, saying that they were interested in looking into expansion at UCSC. She wanted to make sure we would all be comfy giving up our letters and affiliating, so I'm going to bring it up at our meeting on Tuesday. And I got the cutest cards and necklaces to give to our girls to welcome them to pledging NBO!
Bad news...this is a quote from our school newspaper on the whole mtv fiasco:
"During this rush event, in a contest where the rushee with the most chips would receive the prize of a dinner courtesy of Alpha Psi sorority girls, one older frat boy screamed to the winner and the rolling MTV cameras, 'And if you don't get and pussy I feel sorry for you.' His very decent and civilized comment was followed with, 'or at least get a handee (handjob)'. MTV cameras zoomed in on his smiling face, exposing the world to Santa Cruz's universal value towards women. What better way to promote equality for the opposite gender, then by publicly announcing that some obediant woman with make a man dinner, complete with spaghetti, meatballs, Alpha Psi 'pussy', and a side of Alpha Psi 'handee'. Anyone care to say grace?"
I have no further comment on this, I think it speaks for itself...

Am I the only one who'd like to see a restraining order of some sort served on MTV? I honestly feel that their portrayal of the greek system is infringing on all of our rights!!
Corinna - congratulations on the new sisters' find! Hope you make a good and wise decision on colonization!!
