Our greek advisor has definitely been helpful with the extension process, but she's only one person. And the Greek Council doesn't, as far as I know, handle things of this nature. So the responsibility is mainly on us, and it's not as much of a priority as building sisterhood, rush, etc. It's alot for us to try to handle basically. Everyone's suggestions are definitely good- I just need to really do some work I guess.

Sidenote: Delta Omega Chi has gone with the ever popular (and in my opinion overused and unoriginal) "Freshman Girls- get em while they're skinny" rush t shirt. Do you understand my concern about this fraternity life thing? It's just going to get uglier and uglier, I'm so distressed.

Of course you're stressed out over fraternity life and that perfectly horrible slogan! Since there's probably nothing y'all can do to stop it, rise above it. Practice what y'all are going to say if asked about DOC, but make sure it's sweet and delivered with a smile. Something on the lines of, "DOC? I'm sorry, but we don't take out the trash." Make sure you're sweet, make sure you're smiling, and make sure you walk away with your head held high. If y'all stand together, there will be nothing of value for MTV to show.

Oh what a bad slogan.

Just ignore those boys and avoid MTV's Fraternity Life.

I think that you should open your sorority up to the possibility of another national sorority. Don't limit yourself to AZD. They're great, but there are 25 other great NPCs and many nationals not in NPC. Good luck! Try not to be so distressed. Deep breath, count to ten, exhale. Repeat until calm.

Whatever happened to that thing where 4 NPCs were looking to present at UCSC? I thought that NBO and the other local, Alpha Psi, had a sort of "informal agreement",
where Alpha Psi was going to look at 2 groups (Alpha Phi + another) and NBO would look at the other 2 groups, just so that they would not step on each other toes.

I know that Alpha Phi and Sigma Sigma Sigma and Alpha Xi Delta were 3 of the 4, I can't remember what the other 1 was (and this thread is getting so huge, I can't think of how I would find it!)

I understood Cream to be saying, don't be fixated on AXD because there are 25 other NPC GLOs to choose from. So not including GPhiB and AXD, that leaves 24 "others."

I think we're all saying the same thing here, more or less. I suppose also it would be polite to rule out Alpha Psi's preferred org, which leaves 23 "other" choices. That's still a whole lot of wonderful sororities!

I think this 'rush slogan' is terrible. Is there something your greek council can do about it? This might sound kind of silly, but I was totally inspired by the speaker who spoke to all our Greeks this past Monday. Those rush shirts not only make that particular fraternity look bad (even though they don't seem to realize it) but it has a negative impact on ALL GREEKS as well.

The example our guest speaker gave us went something like this:
He was standing in line at a grocery store and was behind two other people. The woman in front of him was talking to another woman that went to the store with her, pointed to the shirt a guy was wearing in front of her and said "THAT is why I would never allow my son to join a fraternity!" The back of the guy's shirt in the front of the line had a negative connotation towards women with a "RUSH XYZ" in bold print on the back as well.

So even though they may think their t-shirt is "cool".. I would hope the Greek Council or Greek Advisor highly discourage it.

I think this was the goal, not who actually sent in written presentation materials or presented. It is my understanding that AZD is the only group that presented at UCSC.

hehehehe...you know, *I* was just about to post (and be a pain in the butt) by pointing out that it's 23:

26 NPC groups
- Gamma Phi Beta
- Alpha Xi Delta
- Alpha Phi

= 23 NPC sororities left to pick from.



If I was in this situation, here's what *I* would do at this point. I would put together a rockin' presentation portfolio in a nice folder which includes:

- cover letter
- My local sorority information incl. founding, mission statement and goals
- sisterhood scrapbook
- community service scrapbook
- academic portfolio
- biography of each member
- a run down of the current greek life scenario at the university
- The formal letter stating non-participation with MTV. (!)
- A "why we think going national is good for us" spiel
- A "what we have to offer a national org" sales pitch
- since I'm a big geek, I would even grab my camcorder and produce a video of the sorority in action so that I could enclose a video tape with the mailing. Or hey, you can even burn a CD with Quicktime video or something.

Next, I'd make sure to have a good website showcasing all of this info.

Then, I'd send it DIRECTLY to EVERY SINGLE ONE of the NPC organizations. (For you an exception would be made for GPhiB and APhi. )

Outside of maintaining the sorority business and enjoying my sisterhood, I would consider it a matter of sitting back and seeing who is interested. Of the orgs which take the presentation seriously, I would then look at who best fits the sorority's goals and ideals and shortlist from there.

Hmph! I'm too impatient for this stuff. That's what *I* would do!

There are 23 NPC sororities left if you include Alpha Psi's preferred sorority whatever that may be.
