Both women accepted their bids! NBO is now on the way to having 9 members...doesn't seem too impressive but for us it's a big accomplishment! I think I've been reading Earp's posts too much because I have such a tendency towards exclamation points! Ok, more later. Meeting tonight was stressful- people get so offended when things don't go exactly their way, myself included obviously. But it's really frustrating to me when sisters make it obvious that they have no interest in even rationally dealing with a problem. We had an online meeting tonight, and girls would just sign off. Only two really, but it was frustrating nonetheless. I just think that's not an effective way of dealing with things. But we are at least making slow but steady progress. It's hard but ultimately I think we are taking more steps forward than back, so that's good right? More later!

The big school newspaper just did a phone interview with me! Plus, one of our new members now has three friends who are interested in Nu Beta Omicron! We're going to meet with them and possibly have even more members in NBO! I'm very excited
Things are going well, thank you all again for the support!

Corina,
I must reiterate everyone's feelings. You would be such an asset to ANY sorority. Gamma Phi had NO clue what type of woman they were missing out on when they didn't give you a bid. I just want to say that once your chapter is installed, no matter what org it is I will try and get as many sisters from the 3 San Fran State panhellenic sorors ( my chapter, Phi Sig Sig, alpha Phi and AGD) to come and visit and support you. If you need anything during this process, remember we are not to far away.

Corina,
Way to go! I told you!!! Keep talking to your newest members about their friends. See where that got you? To 3 Potential new members. That's awesome! Keep asking every new member you get, because even they have other friends who aren't in NBO. Keep it up!!!

Don't forget, PR is the best thing for you right now. A free interview in the newspaper? That's great! Free PR. Now utilize the campus even more. Put your events in their calendars, put your information on the school website, utilize anything that you can.

Word of mouth is a great way to recruit new potential sisters. That's how we recruited during informal rush and COB. It seems like everything is going well for you and NBO. Congratulations and keep up the great work!

Do you guys have a web page up and running yet? If so, could you post a link to your site for us to check it out?

Congratulations on spring recruitment!

WOW!!!!

ok, so i pretty much have not left my computer for the last three days. 43 pages of wonderful, someone said that already, but i totally agree. i have been taking notes the whole time, because I am the social/sister chair of a group in the same situation. we are called Delta Zeta Alpha. we are a group of girls that formed an interest group and requested a national sorority the present to us, and we totally clicked. we have a large and very strong greek system on my campus, and when the local panhel voted for extension, we did not get the majority vote. aparantly, it was because of the lack of time for them to think about it. so, they will vote again in fall. until then we are a local sorority doing recruitment, philanthropy, and social type stuff. this thread has been so much help. Corina, you are an inspiration to us all and I want to thank you for that. I also want to thank all those that posted helpful info, because it is helping more than just one group. anyways, a little off the subject, but i can't wait for the next post!! if anyone wants to comment on my specific situation, y'all can visit me under General forums: Locals: new local, need social ideas!
thanks again corina, and everyone else. this has been the best, i got happy when y'all were and sad when y'all were. i love it! i love that the greek community is so strong, it makes me want this worldwide, lifelong sisterhood so much more!!

Stephanie

Hey everyone,

I've been working like mad recently, so no time to really post until right now. We decided to extend a bid to another women, and I think she will be a wonderful addition to NBO. So that will bring our total up to ten, which I think is a great number for us! On Wednesday evening we had our first new member education meeting, which is going well. We're all having alot of fun. Plus, the process of helping new girls get involved and acclimated with NBO has really served to help bond us existing members. I'm feeling very happy about everything thus far. I do not, however, have any idea when the organizations are coming to visit- Mariko is extremely hard to get in touch with, so I literally have no info whatsoever. Usually emailing her works, but my computer sent out a bunch of viruses (virusi?) and thus I've been telling people not to open emails from me. Soooo, I have to keep trying to call her. There's been some drama between NBO and DOC- regarding that infamous Wednesday night of our rush period- but I think I've handled everything as well as I can. There were some rumors going around about one of our rushees and one of their members, and I ended up talking to their president, just to clarify what was going on, and to make sure everything was ok between our two organizations. Alpha Psi has been really adament about wanting to have a social with us- is it wierd that I feel a little nervous about that? I don't mean to be suspicious, but after the whole TP incident I'm just wary of them. But we're having our social chair plan something with them for like a month down the road, because things are still so crazy with us right now. I'm trying to figure out if there's any more news...I think that's the bulk of it right there. No website yet, mostly because I need to send Sarah a bunch of info about us and I keep forgeting what needs to be sent and to even do it at all! But as soon as I work it out I will let you know I promise. Any thoughts? More later, thanks for being interested and for the beautiful compliments, they really restore my confidence in this whole process!
love, Corina

If Alpha Psi wants to have a social with you, perhaps you should share your concerns about the TP incident with their president. Tell her the truth. You are a bit wary because of what happened and you want to make sure that the social is handled in a mature and responsible way. For one thing, if they are trying to play you, they will be damaging their chances to go national....Don't tell them that though, 'cause that might seem like a threat or something.

How are you going to have a social in a month? Does your school last a long time? I know that my school only has 2 more weeks before finals.

I am so proud of everything you have accomplished. I don't know how you do it! It is very admirable.
