For those at a school where PNMs wear black to Preference, J. Crew has a cute Little Black Dress line:

Most of the dresses are also available in other colors, too.

Perhaps I'm not as informed about UT having never participated in recruitment there but I believe the advice to be sound for a wide variety of PNMs across the country. Further, I doubt a PNM wearing a colored dress to a pref party would be a valid reason for them to not receive a bid ... but then again, I'm not a UT person.
|
In helping a friend get ready for UT rush, I am pretty sure I read on the UTexas Greek website(expressly stated) that the PNM's should wear black.
And yes, not wearing black on pref would be reason to not receive a bid. This is Texas - this recruitment is in a class all by itself.
PNMs- Definitely get advice here, but everyone should pay attention to what is suggested by their own college panhellenic office that is in charge of recruitment!!!

Y'all have really piqued my interest about how they do recruitment at UT--and there have been some beautiful black dresses linked! If everybody's wearing black, what do girls do to stand out from one another? (In that 'be correctly identified and, hopefully, receive a bid' way, of course!) Would it be shoes as perfectinpurple mentioned, or jewelry, or hairstyle, or what? I'd love to know more.

I will defer to LadyLonghorn to respond to unicorn's specific question, but, imo, pref night is not the night to try to distinguish yourself at a competitive campus. It is more important to be dressed appropriately than to find a way to stand out with your attire.

Fair point! It's just that this particular element of UT's recruitment is so different from my own campus's way of doing things that I got curious.

Does anyone know about UVA's pref night? A "little black dress" is recommended in the pamphlet, but would it be permissible to wear a different color, or is the situation similar to Texas rush, where a color other than black is not an option and would work against me?

If black is recommended, then that's what I'd go with.

It won't work against you, but black dresses are the norm. Keep in mind that it's FREEZING during recruitment and you'll be riding buses to all of the preference locations. There were several colored dresses that I noticed this year, but they were all in the style of a little black dress.

So after looking at the panhellenic website for Texas State (where i'll be attending in the fall) and looking through some of the preference outfit threads I'm not sure how I should go for my dress. The website says cocktail attire but ss black a must at Texas State like UT? Is It better to wear black versus colors? After looking through some links provided I really liked this one:
http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/3033938?...oduct-_-Manual
but does it look too old? My friend really liked this one:
http://www.dillards.com/webapp/wcs/s...007&R=03072638
Should I just go with black to be safe or could these be a better choice?

If black isn't a must (and I don't know if it is or isn't) I LOVE that purple one and I don't think it'll look too old at all. I'm not too nuts about the seafoam green one just because that isn't the best color on some people (read: me). I also like the style of the purple one better.
