Re: Re: Re: Re: School Speculation

Just what munchkin said...

I think she is asking if there are any black women or women of color in the sororities at SMU...

Alexandra Robbins appearance at DePauw cancelled

Apparently she is afraid of the big bad sorority girls and made some rather ridiculous demands regarding her lecture.

Screw her demands. She probably got afraid the whiny lying biotch.

Gotta go now & throw up my lunch b/c all sorority girls have eating disorders you know.

I'm sure this has been mentioned before (probably in this very thread), but is it possible that Robbins went through recruitment in college and didn't receive a bid???

Robbins is a member of Scroll and Key at Yale. She's already a member of a fraternal society.

I read the book too out of curiousity to see the other side of greek life of sorority members who were not in predominantly Black Sororities. I felt that she generalized and made sensationalized accounts of the lives of the members. I felt that it could be viewed negatively to disparage the lives of those in those organizations and their behavior. I found most interesting the account of a Black woman at the University of Alabama and her attempt to integrate into the predominantly white sororities, and her outright rejection resulted in her decision to form her own sorority with a diverse membership.
I didn't feel that she was biased toward predominantly Black sororities as this was not the focus of her book.

She's written a book about Skull and Bones and she's written one about sororities. my question is, why hasn't she written a book about her own organization? I would think she would start there first since she has actual first hand knowledge.

I heard the Carmen Electra wannabe is Greek. I also heard SOMEWHERE during the episode you can see part of her letters. I tried to pay attention tonight, but failed, and so I didn't catch it. Crazy people though...

I know! Ms. Robbins actually came to UK a couple weeks ago, but I didn't know about it in time or I would've gone, just to see what she had to say.

I was at Barnes and Nobles this past week and i thought out -of curiosity i would check to see if they have any more copies left in our hokey little mall.....Mind you were i live You get a look on someones face when you say sorority like it is a strange new word......all copies were sold which floored me because this isn't a high populated college kinda town where everyone goes off to college and joins GLO's.

Maybe they aren't keeping them in stock? I work at one of the biggest BN's in the country, and I think we're only modeled for 1 copy now.

I never finished the book. It actually made me very angry because everything I read in that book was so different from my experience and I felt like she just kept repeating herself as well. The point where I couldn't go on was when she started to divulge the ceremonies of sororities. I know how special the ceremonies are to our chapter and I just couldn't bring myself to read about another sorority's rituals.

So I don't know how it ends, only that it makes me angry because what she presented she made seem like it was very normal and that every sorority does this same thing at every school. She never discussed what being in a sorority, a specific sorority meant, really. The precepts of my sorority are something that I will always carry with me and are part of what got me through my four years.

I believe it's KISS, if she hasn't changed it yet.
