I attended ACPA last year also. But not as a candidate. I am trying to decide if i want to search at NASPA or ACPA. FOr me NASPA is closer since it's in Tampa (I live in Orlando). I am currently completeing my masters. I am looking for a position that has a mix of Residence Life and Greek Life.

Great on finding a job!!

(I am a member of SAI also!!!)

I could use some advice.
I'm currently doing sales for a catering company and it is hellish. I really would like to re-enter the student affairs field. I am thinking of attending the conference in Oshkosh, WI. But could use advice.

In college I was an RA, student gov, AST, on two Presidential Committees and various other activies. I know I'm not ready to start my master's next year and feel like a year as a Hall Director could be good to think about where I see myself going. Any advice on which conferences to go to? I'm currently in Philly and would kind of like to stay in this area. Thanks!

You were 1 year too late - ACPA nationals were in Philly LAST year It's in Nashville this year and NASPA is in Florida.

I would say go to either one of the nationals, I havent heard too many good things about the regionals...then again, I work in academic advising and there are a slew of res life positions at the conventions. I have to be honest and tell you that you may not get a hall DIRECTOR position until you get your masters. But you could become an area coordinator or an assistant area coordinator or assistant director without one - it depends on the school. AC's and AAC's hire, supervise, and train the RA's and do other sorts of duties. I would target the smaller schools if I were you.

Hi UCFStefanie!!!!!

There are schools out there who hire students who do not have masters degrees. I would definetly look at smaller schools like syrinx said. The schools who do not have student affairs academic masters programs tend to hire those without masters degrees. From personal knowledge you are probally better off looking at OPE (in wisconsin) or SPE (in Tennessee) for those positions. I know two of my friends both went to SPE and found entry level jobs who didnt have masters. Best of luck in your search.

Hi syrinx!!!!!!!

ETA: to fix spelling.

OPE is where I'm planning to go at this point. The national conventions are just too expensive on my salary. I know they are probably worth their money, but I sadly do not have it. SPE...are they more likely that OPE to have jobs in the Philly area? or am i hit-or-miss. Thanks for the adivce!!!!

Melissa- Oshkosh has a huge placement exchange for res life jobs. I'm orignially from Menomonie, WI so it will be easy to see my parents in the same trip.

UW Greek position open

The Greek Advisor position is open at the University of WA. One of the members of my alumnae chapter is working on reviewing the resumes and passed on the info to me. Here is part of her email to me.......

The position is posted on the UW Website under student services. I can tell you that the Vice President is specifically looking for someone with either experience in or a strong interest in Greek Life. Work experience in higher education is a plus. A Bachelor's Degree is required and a Master's Degree would be helpful. Other skill sets include a solid knowledge base and experience with Microsoft office.

This isn't really a greek advisor position but it is a position working with our Associated Students.

go to www.csudhjobs.com and on position category click on MPP. it will take you to the General Manager position for ASI. This isn't an entry level position but there may a few people on GC who would be interested in it.

The position is at Cal State University Dominguez Hills which is in Los Angeles County.

For what it's worth, I'm a new Programs Assistant at San Diego State University. I was specially hired to support the Student Clubs & Organizations and The Center for Fraternity and Sorority Life. I don't think we have anymore Greek Life positions available; but The Centers for Student Involvement has some other vacancies which will be coming up in the next several months.

UF is hiring...

And wish me luck, I'm applying for a similar position at a much smaller school (because I lack the masters degree).

Fun-ny! LOL, you read my mind! Maybe under professional affiliations: regular GreekChat poster...

No, it's not, but I don't think it would hurt to mention it in an interview Although, GC has taught me a lot about FR, other sororities and fraternities, etc. Luckily, my alumnae chapter prez used to work in the office I'm applying at so I'm hoping she can put in a good word or advise me on my resume...

I know this is an old thread, but I am actually interested in going back to school in a year or so, and higher ed is one of the paths I am thinking of taking.

Any suggestions on good programs in the South East?
