Depends on the Culture

I work in student affairs at a university, so I wear 'nalia when its appropriate and if it fits my office attire. I don't wear t-shirts to work period, so I only wear jewelry, jackets, or sweaters. Plus -- I have 'nalia in my office. In my case it helps to bridge a gap between my students and me. I'm an administrator and I graduated from college over 10 years ago, but the students like to know that I was once an undergrad soror. BUT I have to be careful in not seeming as if I am biased towards my sorority when it comes to my work. It is important that I connect with all of the greek organizations on my campus.

Really?
Your principal must be non-clear. I never looked at it like that. I'm at a HS too. My auxilliary girls know I'm greek and my co-workers, but... It's not something I've done.

I like the idea of the greeks getting together to have a "greek day." I dunno if it will work here. LOL Last year, my principal (clear) didn't want a sub wearing his SU band windbreaker. Yet, when members of the faculty and staff wear their LSU gear, it's okay.

I MAY break out my new AKA letter jacket Thursday morning or Friday morning since it is homecoming week.

Since I work at a university and we are deep in my division, we all have small items in our office (i.e. snow globe, picture frame, cup holder, candy dish). We also wear our jackets on campus and on Fridays when we have lunch together. We had to scale it back when students were constantly stalking I mean stopping us asking when the chapter was coming back.

It's a lot of fun. Some of the managers don't participate with a shirt but might wear a lanyard or a visor.

When I taught high school, my school bag was my red leather DST bag. Also at the Kappa Conclave in 2001, I bought a DST teacher shirt that said
2 teach is to change lives 4 ever

There are Greek polo shirts that say, i.e.

XYZ teacher
XYZ lawyer
XYZ doctor
XYZ engineer
XYZ principal
XYZ Social Worker

I never did buy one when I saw them at our conventions and at the Kappa Conclave.

My mom had a lot of things on the desk in her office. I also remember several teachers at school that had identifying things around.

I've carried my umbrella and I have a mug at work.

I work at a university as well and most of us greeks have things on our desk/office or carry totes and umbrellas. Of all the NPHC greeks that are staff, there's one Omega and he wears his windbreaker proudly whenever he can.

My job is not condusive to wearing Nalia. I have a small red votive candel with letters on it and a brass elephant on my desk. Every so often, depending on the situation, I may wear my colors, but that is it.

Actually one of the clubs that I sponsor first fundraiser activity was "Representation Day" were they sold $2 tickets to faculty and staff in order for them to wear their alma mater, social/service organization shirts with jeans on a Wednesday. We raised $300 from that event. Mainly because every greek org. tried to out do the other. And yes he's a non-clear Omega man from PVU.

Put a spin on it. The money raised goes to _______________. (I would normally say Hurricane Katrina victims but since you are in the NO. . . but I know you would come up with a great idea.)

I wear my watch every day, and I often wear lavaliers (have a gold one and a sterling silver one).

But I don't wear my T-shirts or jackets, even on casual Fridays. I live during the week and work in a place that's overwhelmingly clear and don't need or want to explain what I do.

Ditto. If I drive in, I will usually wear my crossing jacket (it's a great windbreaker and because of the colors, it makes me easier to see--I'm on a scooter) I have a coffee mug on my desk but thats it.

Re: Wearing Paraphernalia On the Job

I'm an attorney so it's never appropriate for me to wear para. . However, I do have my "AKA" desk plaque on my desk.

There have been threads on wearing para in public and purchasing/wearing inappropriate para...

Greeks, do you wear para (shirt, sweaer or jacket) to work? As a professional, in your line of work, is it appropriate? Is it ever inappropriate to wear para while working?
