With all due respect and kindness of intent - the actives are also feeling the pain of rejection. Believe me, if you have ever sat through membership selection (as most of the alumnae posting here have) you understand exactly what I'm talking about.
As for transfers - another additional factor is this: the transfer may not fit with the chapter! Yes we went through the same initiation, but the culture at MIT or Yale is quite different from that at Arizona. The student populations vary from campus to campus.
Here's my solution: IU goes to a quota/total system. ALL chapters must bid to total or risk consequences from their headquarters. Poof! Stigma is gone e.g. ABC took 57, EFG took 25 - so EFG is much more selective - NOT ANY MORE. What a concept, huh?
