Re: FABRIC?????
Soror, burgundy is a shade of RED and magenta is a shade of pink so there is the difference.

My point simply was that it's not always a clear, black and white issue to the point where it could be called "definitely out of protocol." They are both poor choices and when it comes to protocol, there is a vast area of gray that gets interpreted differently by different people. I don't think any of us disagree when it comes to the color of the symbols, but it's the garments on which folks choose to put the letters that is the issue. I've seen grey/black/white camoglouge outfits with the letters on them and I've also seen a regular, heather greay sweatshirt with red symbols applied. The sweats didn't bother me, but the camo's did!! Some wouldn't draw a distinction between the two. The other point is the manner in which someone chooses to let someone know their attire may be inappropriate - I'd be more disgusted with the soror that felt the need to "snatch" something off of someone's body than the soror that had red letters on a blue pullover - but that's a whole different issue altogether that I'll just leave alone because I'll be typing until Saturday!!

I believe that denim is just that, a FABRIC, just like leather and suede and cotton, etc. Denim or jean fabric is normally blue even though it can come in other colors. I consider normal blue or even stone washed as a neutral background while orange or indigo is completely different.
I think that we can all can agree on a guideline that 'neutral' anchoring colors of fabric is within protocol. If denim (read 'normal blue denim or jean') is specifically against protocol, then I believe it needs to be stated.
It is up to us as members to only buy ' nalia that is in good taste and does not specifically conflict with our organizations guidelines.

Unfortunately, I have seen that awful ABC looks good in all colors for every D9 Sorority. I have always thought it was in poor taste and I know for DST, it is against protocol to behave disrespectfully towards our colors or another orgs
I cannot imagine why anyone would want to put her letters on anything other than her Sorority's colors or a neutral color. I am not crazy about the denim or the khaki but I would be completely shocked to DST on a navy blue anything or a pink something or an orange something. I also am not a fan of Sorority letters on camouflage either.
To my Neo Sorors- and all the neos out there- before doing something like this, use the opportunity to turn your prophytes to your advantage. The best way to learn and grow in any org is to ask questions. Better you ask and get corrected than get pulled up.

Again, it's all a matter if interpretation - there's no need for us to defend burgundy as being "close to red" when burgundy is also a shade of brown and magenta is also a shade of purple, Pink isn't a primary color so they are all shades or combinations of red, blue or yellow - but that isn't the point.
Being a "shade of" or "close to" doesn't make something crimson - red is the only acceptable substitute so there's no need for folks to go past red if something is questionable. I'm also starting to see purple and lavender used in DST paraphenalia - true, the violet is our flower, but does that extend to clothing as well??? It's something we talk about alot - I consider this a healthy discussion - but we don't see any clarifications or uniform changes communicated to chapters and as our organization grows that is going to have to change because there are too many individual, regional and generational diferences of opnion. Instead of even making personal and chapter interpretations, we should consult our P/T guides, the Commentary and if necessary call a regional or national P/T committee on the issue, that's what they are there for.
I agree that all paraphenalia needs to be designed and worn in taste and sorors need to be sisterly in addressing the issue with one another. For example, in a recent DID I did with collegiates around attire, the conversation quickly moved to the proper undergarments to wear under clothing - the opinions basically broke down by generation and not to be too graphic older sorors basically felt that halters and baby doll tops were cute, but I don't need to see your nipples through your DST shirt, if you want to wear it, put on a padded bra - if you can't look ladylike in it, don't wear it (I'm paraphrasing, of course) these were things that 20 and 50 year olds saw completely differently.
This horse is sufficiently beaten for me!!

Of course, there was no problem with them being there but one of them (mid-40's) had on a RED AND WHITE AKA SHIRT with the phrase 'AKA'S LOOK GOOD IN ANY COLOR" on the back!!
Now, I KNOW what our P&T says about this, and I lay odds that this sort of behavior is deemed to be in poor taste from the AKA's protocol. I just did a SLOW BURN and asked myself....WHAT ON EARTH POSSESSED HER to think that was an APPROPRIATE thing to do!! I know she saw Sorors staring DAGGERS into her.
Especially when they wandered into the Official Delta Boutique!!
Oh, my people

Soror we must have been at the vendor at the same time because I know who are talking about!!!! IT COPMPLETELY threw me off at first...... becuase first she was at a Delta National CONVENTION wearing red and white, so I automatically ASSumed that she was a Soror UNTIL I read it and it said AKA.....and let me say I have NEVER EVER in my LYFE seen that before,,,,,,that's just like having Delta Sigma Theta in Blue/White, Blue/Gold/ or PINK/GREEN

Oh I know that we were in the vending area at the same time, she was cruising ALL AROUND that day!!
I'm sure you're not the only soror who saw her that day!!
Go figure, I know the Sisterfriends of AKA have better taste, she was just MISGUIDED!

No thank you
Years ago a soror gave me as a gift a pink and green t-shirt with the words "Deltas Look Good in Any Color". I politely asked her not to be offended but I did not feel comfortable with a shirt like that. (This was when they first came out and the P&T did not forbid it.) I told her I had many AKA friends and did not want to disrespect them. She thought about it and told me I was right and took mine and the one she had bought for herself back to the vendor.

Those Dang Vendors....
Yes....I remember when those shirts came out.....Maybe they later started making them in specific 'coloring' with that statement. I specifically remember the white multi-colored shirts.
Those dang vendors....that's who to blame. Although a lot of us on here wouldn't wear such shirts, trust...there's a lot of Deltas, AKAs, Zetas, and etc. with such shirts. But if the shirts were never 'made' or if we bought pari from 'authorized' vendors of our greek organizations...this wouldn't happen! There's a lot of shirts and etc. I don't think greek letters should be put on....someone told me about greek 'undergarmets', tube tops and etc. Now why do some of greek sisters/sorors buy stuff like that...I have no earthly idea.......... But I'm sure if we wouldn't buy them, they would stop making such!
Greek love....

protocols
Each org has their own protocols on what's appropiate dress and dress dealing with locations (liquor stores, clubs, etc).
All vendors aren't gonna know the protocols... and, I'd wager most vendors not in your org, aren't gonna know yours..
QUES aren't supposed to kick the 'blue denim cap' with the letters on it because blue is the background color. That goes for any color Kente other than purple as well.
Black shirts/jackets is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN... I 'confiscated' a Bruh from Houston's 'black leather Frat Jacket' for being out of protocol...
White shirts/pullovers are also not protocol but one chapter I know kicks white pullovers/jackets for tradition.. WHATEVER..
Bruhs are only supposed to kick Purple, Gold and/or Camo print..

Respect for the Nalia
I totally agree with you SistaFriend. I am soooo tired of less than perfect " nalia" I see. Some have the wrong color combination, crooked decals and the like. Sometimes, they lie and say "Oh I just sold out of those." What I've decided to do is to save my little bit of $$ and have what I want custom made.

I know that's right. When I first went over, an older Soror schooled me about checking para VERY carefully. She said when she went over (Alpha Gamma fall 86) a number of vendors were selling things with Delta Sigma Theta speeled WRONG on te shield. Besides the colors I am checking every detail! It is really a mess and a shame when they do that. But I have caught a few.

Re: Soror's Shop in Ohio
I checked it out. She's got good stuff, but someone needs to tell her that we can't be rockin' the shield and the letters on the BACK of our clothes!
