How old were you when you met your husband/wife?
I met my wife when we were both sophomores in college; we were friends, and started dating our junior year, when we were 20.

How long did you know each other before "the question" was popped?
We were dating for a year and 3 months before I asked her to marry me

How long was the engagement?
The engagement was a little over a year; I proposed in mid-May of 2004, and we were married in late June 2005, at our church in Boston.

1. Hmm...He was involved with a married friend of mine (I didn't have a clue..he was always there...strange really). But I REMEMBER meeting him for the first time in fall of 1987. We were officially introduced at aNew Year's Eve 1987 party (31 Dec 87) at said married friend's house. We had a cute flirtation for a few months (always around said friend..he was really her puppy dog...LONG story) and had our first official date on 6 June 1988. He fixed me a Prego spaghetti dinner and I never went home. We have been together ever since. (Yes married friend has since divorced and remarried and is a VERY close friend of ours..it is so complicated..but she gave me the greatest gift ) So that makes me 28 and him 32.

2. OFFICIALLY accepted proposal came on Christmas Day 1990. We had already had Sageofages son # 1 and were happily co-habitating. He had asked probably a dozen times before, but I wasn't in a hurry and it was working just fine . I like to remind him I didn't get an engagement ring, I got an engagement baby .

3. Official engagement ended with nuptials on 13 April 1991. So...3 months and 20 days.

Pair bonded and soulmates ever since........

How funny! I didn't get an engagement ring, either. I got an engagement dog...

1. Hubby and I were both 19 when we met at an off-campus party. We started dating about a month after that.

2. We dated about 5 months before he popped the question, sort of. Since he didn't have a ring, he wanted to test the waters to see what I'd say to the question, "Do you think you have to have a ring to be engaged?" Since I said no, he asked the BIG question and I said yes. The next day we went to the pound and got an engagement dog.

3. The engagement lasted two years, and the marriage has been going strong for eight. The dog, too, is still happy and healthy.

It seems that people meet thier husband/wife at all different ages. Some over 30 even. Id love to show this to one of my guy friends who believes that if a girl is not married by the time she is 30 its highly unlikely that she will ever get married. Since when is 30 so old? Anyone else hear anything like this. I am single so I dont know what I am doing in this thread ....

I'm 22 and single, and it doesn't bother me. I have sorority sisters who have said that they will "just die" if they aren't married by 25.

IMO that's why there are many failed marriages... people just trying to make it happen in the age "window" they think it's supposed to happen at, and just kinda marrying whoever they're with at the time, rather than waiting it out, and working on themselves and the relationship.
That of course isn't to say that there aren't some people who are completely ready by 25 to take that life long plunge, I just think it's sad that people feel badly if it hasn't happened for them yet by then... IDK... shrug

Dr. Laura Schlessinger says folks should not get married after they are 30... That is if you believe what she says.

I was 34 when I got married.

I do not think it is the end of life after 25ish if a woman chooses not to marry. The reasons are legion. I personally think that a woman should have her own stuff that she can leverage in the relationship, like money, property and retirement. Yes, a spouse and you and still build on what they bring to the table. But, should the relationship end, and they always do either by divorce or death, then a behooves a woman to be prepared to have a safety net and security. And a pre-nup will not protect her unless it is her own.

I have seen personally what happens to women when their maritial relationships end.

Let's just say "no romance without finance is a nuisance".

Cheating, as I'm not married YET ...

We were both around 11. Sixth grade

We'd known each other for eight years before we became engaged (although we hadn't been dating all of that time - only about 1 year).

We'll have been engaged for about 3 years and 9 months when we get married this October.

Officially, a little over two years. We had been discussing marriage much longer than that, though.

How long was the engagement?
9 months

So far we've been married a whole two weeks!
