Famous and/or notable Alpha Xi Delta alumnae
Kim Webster - actress on "The West Wing"
Jane Henson - co-creator of the Muppets
Lynda Carter - 1970s Wonder Woman
Betsey Johnson - fashion designer
Jan Davis - NASA astronaut
And that's all I can remember right now.

I can confirm that yes, Barbara Bush (the wive of the first Pres Bush) is indeed a proud member of Pi Beta Phi. She was an AI a year ago and is a member of our Houston Alumnae Club, the originators of our current nationwide Literacy project (literacy is one of our major philanthropic efforts, also a major interest of Mrs. Bush).

Last I saw on Tv I believe she was attending UCLA. Someone from UCLA may know if that is true or not.

When I was in school there was a very persistent rumor going around that Debi Thomas had pledged ASA. This was impossible because not only did we not have a chapter at Stanford, we didn't have one in all of CA. Supposedly she said after a competition "thanks to all my sisters in Alpha Sig."
Does anyone know of any locals around the late 80's in that neck of the woods that might have gone by "Alpha Sig"? I'm curious.

I've never heard this, and I don't think it's true. (I'd love to be wrong.)
I just checked our int'l website's list of Famous Thetas and she's not listed. I'll double-check with HQ and repost.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus is for sure a Delta Gamma. Wherever you read that she wasn't was incorrect. She is an alum of the Sigma Chapter of Delta Gamma at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL (one of the Big 10 schools). If you look on our national website ( www.deltagamma.org) you will find her listed as one of our esteemed famous alums.

My Delta Gamma sister is correct.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus is indeed a Delta Gee!

A few up-and-coming, somewhat famous Thetas to add to the list:
Melissa Stark , sideline reporter for Monday Night Football
Amy Holmes - on air political commentator on many news shows during the Gore/Bush 2000 election fracas, print and TV journalist, now a host on BET's issues program. (I can personally verify this one - she was initiated in my chapter during my senior year.)

Phi Kappa Theta counts among its members many Catholic leaders as it was originally founded as a catholic fraternity. As such, the Pope is considered a member of Phi Kappa Theta.

As far as I can tell they only have chapters in the USA. Did they vote to make him an honorary member and he was too polite to decline?

It is sort of the same process as the Girl Scouts do with the First Lady being the "honorary president" of their organization...by virtue of the fact that he is "the Pope" he is considered a member.
I am good friends with their ED, I will email him and ask

Sandra Day O'Connor
I've done a little late night sleuthing. . .
According to her bio, SDO'C was born in 1930. She did undergrad and law school at Stanford - graduated in 1950 and '52, respectively. The Stanford chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta was closed from 1944 until 1978. So, she's not a Theta. (And, until recently, we haven't done many alumnae initiates, so I'm pretty sure that's not the case.)
I think that all Stanford sororities were closed in 1944, so she may not be Greek. . .(or at least not an undergrad initiate).
Anyone else have info?
There are tons of sites out there that list her as being Greek, with no affiliation given. I've also found a list on the Northeast Georgia Alumnae Panhellenic Council website including her as a Pi Phi!)

I've seen a number of sites that list Sandra Day O'Connor as a Theta or a Pi Phi but as far as I can tell, no credible ones.
Michelle Kwan went to UCLA and the Gamma Phi website there makes no mention of her, which you'd think they would if she was an alum of their chapter (or still in it!). Plus, as mentioned, the Gamma Phi website doesn't list her either.

Pam, when I first read this I thought you meant that you were going to email the Pope and ask him.
