Sorry ladies.
Mrs. Geisel/Seuss is not a Sigma. That's according to Nationals.
I wish she was. She lives in San Diego and is always giving $$$$ away. The UCSD library is named after her husband. I'd be stoked to have her in our alumnae chapter!
I wonder if she's in a sorority or if she even went to college. What a triumph it'd be to initiate her as an almuna.

I just relized something. When I get famous it will be hard to prove who I am because I will most likely use an assumed name.

Famous Phi's, and Armstrong comment
Let's see...famous Phi Delts... Here are a few:
Neil Armstrong (Astronaut)
F. Story Musgrave (Astronaut)
Lou Gehrig (Baseball)
Benjamin Harrison (US President)
Adlai Stevenston (US VP)
James Baker (Frmr. Sec. of State)
Bill Bixby (Actor) that's right the HULK!
Dirk Benedict (Actor) Face from the A Team
Tim Conway (Actor/Comedian)
Robert Ebert (Critic)
Hank Ketchum (Creator Dennis the Mennace)
Sam Nun (Politician)
But Reynolds (Actor)
Bob Scheifer (CBS News)
Frank Loyd Wright (Architect)
J. Willard Marriot (founder of Mattiot)
John McLarmore (founder of Burger King)
You can find more at: http://www.phideltatheta.org/
look under our fraternity, then famous Phi's
Also, as far as the Armstrong thing goes (it has been discussed in a couple of other posts). I do not know if he did leave a Phi Delt and/or Alpha Chi Badge on the moon but I have heard that at several different times.
I do know that in our General Headquarters Meuseum that there is a Phi Delt Bade and a small Phi Delt flag (like the US flag the astronauts wear on their space suits) in a display, along with that is a letter from and signed by Armstron himself. It states something like, " I herby donate this badge and flag, that I carried to the moon on the Appolo landing, with the date and signature of Armstrong." So, I don't know if that clears anything up or adds more mystery to it. I think I have a pic of it somewhere I will look tonight and see and maybe scan it in this week.
This convo actually leads me to open a new thread. What are other organizations Urban Legends? Wheter it be unconfirmed membership of certain " famous" people or the Armstrong moon badge story? I will try to start a new thread and get some interesting disuccsion going.
Thanks!

Timely...
I was just watching the US Open Tennis Championship coverage, and went back to check the Delt webpage. Bill MacAtee, the studio anchor is a Delt.
I thought I'd seen that before, but wasn't sure.

Francine Neff, first woman treasurer of the USA, was an ADPi (they gave everyone who attended a convention a dollar bill with her signature). There's more, but I can't access the list from work .
I heard that Steve Martin was a Delt, and that JFK was a Phi Kappa Theta.

While it's possible, he's not listed on our webpage, and it's the first time I've heard of it.
I guess for comic relief, we'll stick with Drew Carey and David Schwimmer among others.

David Schwimmer from Friends, Matthew McCongnehey (sp?), Drew Carey and Will Ferrell from SNL are Delts.
You can see the whole list at www.delts.org.

I have had the pleasure of meeting and partying with Drew Carey. He is an alum of the Delta Omega chapter of Delta Tau Delta at Kent State, and during my collegiate years and shortly thereafter he used to come to KSU's Homecoming.....he was very funny and down-to-earth.

I didn't have the patience to read the whole thread, but Chi Omegas I can vouch for are Lucy Liu, Sela Ward, Mary Ann Mobley (former Miss America, actress, she's on Game Show Network a lot!!!!!!!!) Joanne Woodward (actress, married to Paul Newman), Joyce DeWitt (yes, Janet from 3s Company!!!!)
I have a hard time believing there are not others, particularly with as large a national as we are.

That's hilarious -- I've heard the Carly Simon rumor, too! We had some Thetas call and yell at us after we listed Rue McL....han (can't spell) as an alum in our NPC view book. Our mistake, BUT Blanch (the character) was an Alpha Gam on the show.

Apparently actress Jennifer Garner, star of "Alias", is a Pi Phi. That one hasn't been posted yet.
