No, the A&F models weren't our bros. But indeed, I met a few of the guys who were cast as an extra in the film as one of the bros of Gamma Delta Tau (the name of the house in the movie) which still prominantely featuered our flag! I laugh everytime I see that now. These guys go back to like DD '67 and DD '68, so it is really funny to meet them. I believe he was the bro that asked Dustin Hoffman's character if he needed help or gave one of the ridiculous answers.

haunted house
One of the first few members of my chapter was killed in a car crash in the early 90's. Now its to be said that the room he was lived in in our house is haunted. Kinda scary considering my room is just down the hall. My fraternity brother who lives there says its cold alot, and he gets the chills so who knows whats going on there. Just thought I'd add that.

We have at least one ghost in our house...possibly two.
Peg is our house ghost. She mainly lives in our formal room. Last year we fixed the door to our china cabinet, which had been broken for quite a while. Afterwards, lots of strange little things started happening in the upper floor. Things like tvs shutting on an off, light flickering, etc. My rommate and I had 2 vcrs break in one week. Mine, which was one of the ones built directly into the tv, was working fine and we were watchign a movie. We turned the tv off to go eat dinner and when we came back, it wasn't working anymore. The tv, however, still worked fine. About halfway through the spring semester the door of the cabinet broke again, and mysteriously all the mischief stopped upstairs. It was a little joke among the sisters that Peg was mad that we fixed her cabinet and had moved up to the attic, then came back down after it broke again.
The story of Peg is usually told to the pledges at one of their meetings, mainly because it is sort of a house tradition. I forget the details, as it has been a while since I heard it, but the way the story goes is that Peg was a sister from another chapter who died in a car crash on the main road to the back of our house. We had an alumni (early 90's) visit us during recruitment this year and she found Peg's picture on one of our old composites!
Our other ghost is still a bit of a mystery though... My grandbig told me this story about when she was living in the house.
One night she and her roommate had a mutual friend sleep over on the futon and when they woke up the next day, she was gone. My grandbig's roommate told her that she had woken up during the night and turned over to see a little girl in a white dress standing near the doorway. She though that she was dreaming, so she just rolled over and went back to sleep. Later that day, my grandbig talked to the other girl and asked why she left so suddenly. The girl told her that she had woken up during the night to see a little girl in a white dress standing next to the futon, staring at her. She was so scared she just grabbed her stuff and left. The strange thing is she gave the exact same description of the little girl as the roommate had and neither one had spoken to the other yet! Lots of other weird things would happen in that room too. My grandbig told me they used to come home and find their paddles (which they usually hung on the wall over their desks) placed on their chairs...when the door had been locked. The had a lot of electrical problems too, radios would turn on and off and whatnot. Another weird thing is that my roommate from last year lived in that room the year before (the year after my grandbig) and she always had problems with the tv too. Sometimes the tv would be off and when she leaned against her bed, it would go on. When she stopped leaning, it would go off again. The remote was sitting on the desk, so we know it wasn't that. Also, she was the only one that this would happen to. I tried right after she did it, and it didn't do anything...

SJSU..
SJSU inhabited by spirits, some say
Students suspect ghosts in residence halls, sorority house
By Annelinda Aguayo
Daily Senior Staff Writer
October 31, 2003
According to members of Delta Gamma sorority, there is a ghost lurking in their house on Eighth and Reed streets.
Mindy Wynne, a senior majoring in creative arts, said the ghost of Lori Potter - a former sister - dwells in their home. Wynne said that Potter died in a fire at the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity house - then located at 99 S. 17th St. - in 1985.
"They say that she was at the top of the stairs and they were burning, but she was scared of heights and she wouldn't jump off of them," she said. "Since she died, strange things have been happening (in the house)."
Wynne said that all of the sisters are aware of Potter's presence in the house.
"We say she plays tricks on us," Wynne said. "We don't like to say our house is haunted because it scares us."
And Potter had played plenty of tricks on the sisters of Delta Gamma.
Michelle Eginoire, an undeclared freshman is the niece of a former sister - who was a friend of Potter's - now sleeps in the deceased's old room.
Eginoire said that Potter was known as a prankster throughout the house when she was a part of the sorority.
"One time I had an empty video box on a shelf and it started shaking all by itself," Eginoire said.
She said that the tricks that Potter plays do not scare her.
"She was my aunt's friend and I'm assuming she's looking out for me," Eginoire said. "But my roommate gets freaked out by it."
While some of Potter's tricks are considered funny, there have been some that have not been laughing matters.
Wynne said that she and her roommates shared two rooms connected by a bathroom, and one time when they were out of town, she had a frightening experience.
"It was about 11:30 at night and my roommates' radio was blasting," Wynne said. "I went to turn it off but it wasn't on, so I had to unplug it and then it stopped."
Sleep was the last thing on Wynne's mind after that.
"I didn't want to go to sleep," she said. "It was a trick but it wasn't funny."
Wynne said that a few days ago the sisters were sharing stories and one of them told of a rather terrifying experience.
"One girl saw a silhouette of someone in the kitchen in the middle of the night," Wynne said. "She said she was so scared she ran out."
Whether these stories are urban legends or not, some students believe that there are scary things at SJSU that go "bump" in the night.
** i cut out only the part about dg.. there is other stuff on there about the dorms**
http://www.thespartandaily.com/vnews...4?in_archive=1 (includes picture of Lori's closet)
I found out about Lori the first time my 'new member' sis and I slept in the town girl room. Our house mom had just left (locked the door to her room) and boom her door opened.. freaked us out but the actives explained it was normal. Every once and a while last semester we'd hear the radio in kitchen get REALLY loud when our cook and no one else was in there.. Lori's cool for the most part. I have no complaints about her.

Well, our house used to be a morgue, and a lotta the alumni claim when they lived in that they saw and heard some pretty weird things. I'm living in this year, though, and I haven't seen anything. It's still pretty creepy though

I've got a few UNA stories!!!(there are many more, just ask!!!)
Florence - University of North Alabama area - Guillot University Center - Before it was built, a dorm for girls stood in it's place. It existed while what is now UNA was Florence State Teacher's College. In the early 1900's, a student at the college who lived in the dorms was said to have a secret that stressed her out so very much that she hung herself from the elevator shaft in the tower of the building. No one knew what her secret was or why she felt she had to kill herself. Later, security guards in the building would hear noises that sounded like a swaying body hanging from a rope. Now the Guillot Center stands in its place and noises are still heard on it's second floor. There have been security guards in the building at night that have heard and seen crazy things!
Florence - University of North Alabama area - Norton Auditorium - is haunted by a ghost named George who was a construction worker helping build the auditorium some time ago. He fell from a scaffold to his death. He has been heard walking on the catwalk and various other things.
Florence - University of North Alabama area - Off Campus Bookstore - In the late 30's or early 40's, a young girl named Molly lived in the building with her parents. For her 11th birthday, her parents bought her a puppy. Soon, her puppy contracted rabies and bit her hand. Within a week, she died. Her ghost has been seen many times in the upstairs window, looking down. This house/bookstore used to be the Kappa Sigma house, and Molly was seen there by some of the brothers. Now they have a house a few streets away, and Molly moved with them----she goes back and forth from the bookstore to the Kappa Sig's house! Also, the people that work in the bookstore say the 2nd floor, used for storage, always cold. They can't get any heat to stay up there.
Florence - University of North Alabama area - Weslyan - is haunted by a civil war general's son who drowned when he jumped head first into Cypress Creek from the old one lane bridge on Waterloo Road a couple minutes from campus. His wet footsteps can be seen at night. One Florence resident wrote a book about strange things in the quad cities, and used this story----she actually did an interview with the General himself!!! Crazy, I know!!
Tuscumbia - Bellemont Mansion - Antebellum house. Sits on old plantation. There have many sightings of the spirits of the slaves. It is a tourist attraction now and the shackles still remain on the cellar walls.
Lauderdale - Elgin - Jazz Man - The story goes that a jazz musician was walking across the Second Creek Bridge when a car struck him. He walks up and down the bridge, still wearing his white Zoot suit, looking for a ride to Florence. If you stop to pick him up, he says something about his trumpet and disappears.
Hartselle - Cry Baby Holler - People claim that a woman was driving over this narrow bridge and wrecked. She lived, but the baby in her car died. Now when you drive over that bridge at night. Stop and sit there, until you hear a baby cry. Leave candy on the bridge. Come back a couple of minutes later...a piece of the candy is gone. I've done this one(not the candy part) to see if I could hear the baby cry-----it's creepy anyway cause it's in the middle of nowhere!
Florence - Sweetwater Plantation - Music is played occasionally on an old piano that sits in the parlor where guests were entertained by a former Governor back in the late 1800's. The caretaker recalls a light being turned on at night on the second floor and faucets being turned on at night when she is trying to sleep.
Florence - Ghost Bridge - Supposedly a run-away slave was hung from the bridge during the civil war. There have been many sightings there. I've been here too, and there are many stories that float around about this one. The true story is not as scary as the others, unfortunately.....Some say, the phrase "Hang 'em high, or Hang 'em low" came from this story, depending on if the soldiers were hung underneath the bridge or above it---they say the soldiers that fought in the civil war were hung from this bridge, supposedly a general of the opposing side was hung underneath......not the true story though.....

Okay, this is totally OT. But I found on that site a story about a lil' girl that me and my ex bf in high school actually researched and covered for a school newspaper story. Okay, this is a really long post - but bare with me - good story!
The website said this: Greenup - There is a house where a little girl was supposedly murdered by her parents or housemaid around 1946. She was beaten regularly everyday until she finally died from the harsh, cruel things done to her. She was about 5 years old when she died. It is said that the house still has toys in the yard, and there are many pairs of children's shoes lined up against the wall, and there are tons of books on manners placed on the table along with dinner plates. There are footsteps that sound like someone is coming downstairs, and it feels like you are being watched. There is even an occasional loud banging upstairs.
Okay.... Her name was Mary Magdeline. *go figure*. Anyway, her parents *if thats what you want to call them* were actually her aunt and uncle. They did do horrible things do this lil' girl. The neighbors reported that they had caught the man dunking her head under water and beating her in the front lawn was common. The neighbor that finally gathered enough evidence together took it to the police, but with the war and it being in the boonies back then... the police just did a bunch of warning to the foster parents.
Finally, one day the neighbor was walking and saw Mary's body hanging from a tree. The aunt and uncle had gotten mad at this four year old girl and drunk so they hung her after beating her.
THere are actually pictures of her body hanging from the tree and the mourners of Greenup county coming to see her.
The house has been torn down - but too my knowledge there isn't anything in its place...its just kinda rundown weeds and such.
However, if you want to pay tribute to Mary - which actually, lots of Greenup-Ironton folks do. You can go to her gravesite. The gravesite was paid by the citizens of Greenup, and is in the shape of an angel. Lots of folks bring toys and such to her gravesite, when I went there were even letters.
The story is sooo sad - I guess it really just still touches people. Especially researching it and seeing the pictures and such.
One of the ghost stories however that is the creepiest - a truck driver was driving along the highway near her house stopped immediately as he said a child ran in front of his truck. He stopped and caught out and a lil' girl was saying "help me, dont' let him hurt me". The man reported that it was hard to hear b/c the girl obviously had no teeth * Mary's teeth was knocked out by the Uncle *. Then the lil' girl took off running. The man called the police and reported what had happened. The police found nothing.
Those stories are very common. And in case your wondering my ex and I could not find any news on Mary's Aunt and Uncle. Apparently, they were shipped off somewhere and thats where their story becomes unknown.

Tuscaloosa - Gamma Phi Beta Sorority House - The name or origin of the ghost is not known for sure, but the legend has it that before sorority row was built that there was a home for children on that site. It is said that a small boy by the name of Adam was accidentally scalded to death in a bathtub. There have been numerous incidents of faucets cutting on and off without explanation as well as doors slamming down the hall of house. The spirit is more noticeable at around 8 in the evening when not many people are present in the house. Several have reported having a "creeped out feeling" then to see faucets or TV's turn on without explanation.
theshadowlands.net/places/alabama.htm
Technically about two sororities at once since Gamma Phi Beta leases their house at UA from Alpha Xi Delta's Tuscaloosa Housing Corp.

Haunted Greek Houses on OSU's campus
I know we have a lot of Columbus GC'rs, so any truth to these?
Columbus - Alpha Omicron Pi House - Legend has it that years ago, when the house was owned by another sorority, a sister jumped into Mirror Lake as an Ohio State tradition for Michigan Weekend. She was intoxicated and broke her neck. Her sisters took her back to the sorority house and placed her in her bed, afraid they would get in trouble for being drunk if they took her to the hospital. She died in the room and is said to open the closet doors and move things in the room. In other rooms, girls have said that they have heard the sound of bed springs, but no one will be sitting or laying on the bed. Her name is believe to be Mary-Ellen.
Columbus - Ohio State University - Alpha Delta Pi Sorority - According to some girls in that house, a girl in another sorority got sick and died in the house years ago. Since then the ADPi sorority moved into the house and the hauntings began. The girls claim to see a girl walking down hallways, looking out windows, and looking back at them in reflections in the mirrors. Visitors to the house claim to have seen chandeliers mysteriously moving and have heard strange sounds.

got a scary story
At the chapter, there is a coat of arms of LCA that is basically a braile (sic) version for a blind pledge that went thru in the 1950s or 60s. There is one room of the house that it stays in all the time ( a brother's room ). It is said that whomever takes that COA out of the room, something bad happens...Allegedly the blind brother lived in that room until he moved out due to health reasons. He passed away not long after he moved out.
When I was living there, a brother took the COA to his room...the next day he had a wreck and totaled his car....He was fine..but when he got back to the house he put the COA back in the room very very quickly....
Brothers have also heard footsteps upstairs in the middle of the night. The upstairs is a securely locked chapter room.....Kinda spooky to hear footsteps where there are not supposed to be any at that time of night....
