I don't know about the UC schools, but all of the CSU campuses were closed for two days because of budget furloughs. I found this out when I tried to call Dominguez Hills (my campus, via distance learning) to get a new library card. Also, the CSU system will not be admitting students mid-semester. I keep hearing that the economy is "close to improving," but in California, we are not seeing it.

Ah. One of my colleagues was a Kappa at CSUN. She has wonderful memories of her experiences as a Kappa there. This has nothing to do with Greek life, but my 8th grade son has been to visit UCSB, UCLA, and Cal. He wasn't overly impressed. Two weeks ago, I dragged him to the CSUN library with me.....he loved the campus!

That makes me happy to hear I LOVE this campus. It feels like home.

I have used the libraries at CalArts, College of the Canyons, Master's College and CSUN as resources for my thesis. CSUN's is my favorite!

Our recruitment numbers are only down very slightly. I think like ten less for the guys and maybe 20 less for the girls.

Alot of schools are reporting declines in enrollement, but our paper actually just did a story about our enrollment being the HIGHEST in school history. There was an 11% increase between this fall and the last:

We are also experiencing dorm overcrowding as well:

I think alot of students are sticking close to home these days, rather than venturing further out to attend other schools that may cost more.

Cleveland State's website mention we had a high enrollment this fall semester as the best in the last 10+ years.

It would make sense if the economy is affecting recruitment due to lack of being able to spare money. Ironically enough, the economy has had no effect on the college that I go to; in fact, it's been increasing over the last few years but obviously not due to the financial crisis, haha.

I feel like my school has the exact opposite problem. We have grown by 4,000 students (possibly 5,000, i'm not 100% sure) since i started my freshmen year, and sorority life has increased 10 fold. My plege class, quota was 49 (i believe), last year it was 59, and this year, quota was in INSANE 70 (We took 76...).
My school is very new (Happy 12 years FGCU!) as well as greek life. This is only the 5th year of formal recruitment.
Time will tell of course.
