Driving Horror Stories
do any of you have some stories to share about some driving experiences? funny or sad?
here's ONE of mine:
when i was 14 my dad wanted to teach me to drive. we had just come from working out on a monday and, for some reason, the gym was always packed on mondays. packed gym means packed parking lot right?
well, we were in his favorite restored car, a 193 buick regal. if you know this car, you know it is wide and has a lot of front end. we were backed into the space so that i didn't have to reverse. he wanted to start slow.
i crank the thing up and he says put it in drive. done. then he says "now put your foot on the brake." problem. i don't know which is the brake. when i sense that he is going to go into one of his long and drawn out explanations that he is good, i just press my foot down and hope for the best. at that moment i had a total absence of intelligence. i ask myself, now, "what da hayle were you thinking by not waiting for his answer??"
needless to say it wasn't the brake i hit. we sped forward and i hit 2 cars at once. i got nervous so i turned the wheel--in a freaking 90 degree angle, hitting another car so hard that it hit the car next to it and 2 cars behing it. the impact is what stopped the car because i still sat there with my foot on the gas.
my dad had to go into the gym to make the announcement that if you drove here you need to come see if we hit your car, so of course EVERYONE comes outside. so now i'm embarrassed and ashamed.
including our car, that was 6 cars i hit. now i'm not trying to be racially insensitive here, but one of the cars belonged to a Mexican who, i presume, was illegal because when he came out of the grocery store in the same strip and saw his car, i told him "i hit your car. go talk to the man in the gray sweats. don't worry the police are on their way." he said "THE POLICE??" then he brushes out all of the broken glass in his head lights and speeds off. lol. so that was only 5 cars we had to fix.
as imagined, my parents insurance skyrocketed. in order to remove me from their insurance (i was added automatically), they had to sign some papers saying i wouldn't drive any of their cars until i was 18. i turned 18 in college and couldn't find anyone to teach me to drive and i refused to take driver's ed, so i didn't get my license until i was 21 because my little brother was getting one and i REFUSED to have him driving legally before me...even though he did because he passed the first day and i passed on my fourth try which is another story...
who else wants to share?
