I recently finished White Oleander (haven't seen the movie) and it was just soooo depressing. It was well written but sad.

When I first started reading this thread I immediately thought of White Oleander. It is
disturbing in a
The Bell Jar kind of way. I loved the book, but I had to stop reading about 2/3 through because it was giving me panic attacks. It was just not a good time in my life to be reading that book. The movie is good but not nearly as intense as the book.
I read
A Handmaid's Tale and thought it was great. It was a little
disturbing because I kept trying to figure out where it was set and what year.
I remember reading
Animal Farm in 7th grade and being really disturbed when they shipped the horse off to the glue factory. "All animals are created equal, some are just more equal than others."
