Re: More questions about deferred recruitment
The chapter I advise has recruitment about six weeks into the fall semester.
1. If your recruitment is delayed, how do you charge new members dues?
New members pay more in dues (including NM fees, etc.) than the initiated members and must pay it all in the 8 weeks between recruitment and Initiation. This can sometimes be a problem and we occasionally have NMs that wait until spring to initiate for this reason.
(It is a non-residential chapters, so we don't have issues with rooms or meals.)
2. What are the rules at your school surrounding disaffiliation for Pi Chis/Rho Chis/Rho Gammas (whatever you call them at your school)?
Rho Lambdas disaffiliate electronically starting in June (Facebook, chapter website) and are disaffiliated on-campus as soon as they return in Aug/Sept. Rules state they can't be seen with more than two sisters from their chapter at a time during this period.
3. What are the rules at your school surrounding contact between sorority members and freshmen women?
Freshmen women are not allowed to be invited to the sorority lodges or sorority events. Only exception is that they can attend sorority open houses during Homecoming but we are supposed to encourage them to visit all the houses if they come to ours. This is rare. Any discussion between freshmen and sorority women about recruitment must be Panhellenic in nature (Go Greek because... not Join DG because...).
4. Do you find that most PNMs have already made up their mind about which group they want to join before Formal Recruitment begins?
Some do, especially when there is dirty rushing going on (including girls partying in letters). Typically not a big factor.
