I cleaned out my PM box! Please send again! Thanks everyone. Ok ok, I know I get all sentimental and mushy like this all the time (hey, I'm a girl, I'm allowed at least one week a month to be emotional!) but I just wanted to thank everyone again...without this place and all of you to vent to and get advice from, this never could have happened. You have helped me realize how proud of myself I should be, and how to be the best president possible. I love having this whole audience to tell me success stories to because I know you'll all be so excited! It means alot to me. Ok, I'm done rambling now, more later, as soon as I get any info.

Corina-You seem to be in a much better mood. I hope that you enjoy your sisterhood event. It is exactly what you and your sisters need.
People think that when they join a sorority, they automatically bond. That's not true. It takes effort and time. Sororities are a family away from home for many women. Unfortunately like many families, sometimes they're just dysfunctional!

Wishinhopin, I am sure that everything will work out like it is meant to. Don't get upset because you think that you "click" with an organization that hasn't expressed interest. You can't know that until you have met them anyway...all you could be going off of is their website or other info. Honestly, as much as people debate on here about which sororities are the "elite" ones, which orgs are the biggest, cutest badge, yadda yadda yadda, when it all boils down to it, the national organizations are pretty much the same. They do have small differences that make them unique, but you can honestly be happy in any of them. Plus, and I think people will agree on this point, it makes WAY more of a difference how your individual chapter is! Whatever org you end up affiliating with, your job is to make your chapter be the best reflection of yourselves and your hard work as you can, while at the same time upholding the principles set forth by your national. That is why you can go to one school and their chapter of XYZ can be phenomenal, while at the school down the highway, they might be on the verge of closing. Please, please, please, don't worry about which national. Just be ready to shine as a member of whatever organization you end up with.

Corina-
dzsaigirl couldn't have said it better. Your organization is what you make of it. All 26 NPC groups have rich histories and are great to be a part of. I went to a teeny school with three sororities, and had never even HEARD of half the groups until I became a Rho Chi and started learning all I could about the groups. No matter what GLO you choose, you'll have an enriched college experience and a sisterhood you can be a part of for the rest of your life (and having recently moved 1700 miles, it was very reassuring to know that all I had to do was join the local alum association and POOF instant cool women to hang out with). One is not any more prestigious than the other, just listen to their presentations with an open mind. I bet you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Hey everyone,
I got a letter today from Tri-Delt saying they aren't interested in colonizing here at this point in time But that's ok. I'm really not too upset about it....Tridelt is awesome and I would have loved to be a part of them, but the bottom line is that things will work out. Just wanted to share, and I'll be sure to keep you posted on how things go!

I've had a revalation (sp?). I've decided that NBO is meant to be Chi O. It just suddenly occured to me, it's a feeling I have. I'm going to try to get in touch with them...I will still be happy with any of the choices we currently have, but something about Chi O is just feeling right...I haven't slept in quite a while, been studying too much, so this is might just be temporary insanity. Any thoughts on how I can present us to Chi Omega?

I think before worrying about presenting yourself to any organization - you should really work on building relationships within NBO. I think it would be hard to sell your sorority to anyone when there are so many conflicts. This is just my opinion, but I would work hard for a year, get established, get more members, get organized and raise finances....before rushing into trying to get with a national organization.

I agree. One thing to note about National Organizations expansion policies is that some may not even consider a local group or coming on campus until there are at least 25 women interested or petitioning. Stability is key here. Work on your sisterhood, and strengthen the group. A National Organization will not save anyone, you have to save yourselves first
The thing also to remember about "choosing" a group. All NPC groups must follow NPC expansion policies to the T, whether it's Tri Sigma, Chi Omega or another group. Most groups have internally also their own goals with expansion. Some will not expand to groups with smaller than a certain number of students on campus. Some will only do large, medium, or small schools respectively. Keep that in mind.
Have a great one and get out there and find some new women to become your sisters and enjoy each other as well.

I agree Tracie - and also, stating that you feel Chi Omega is the one group you think is right for you is almost making the same mistake when you started this whole quest - you were so sure GPhiBeta was the only group for you, that when you werent extended a bid, you were crushed. I think taking your time to evolve as a group before even thinking of going national is a wise move. From everything I have read, your group has a lot of problems on a personal level, and I think that needs to be ironed out before everything falls apart.

Corina,
I've been silently following your story and congrats on how far you've come! I'm sorry about Tri-Delt, like TriSigmaTX said they have to follow certain regulations and I think, in my humble opinion, that maybe its because we already have 12 strong chapter in CA, but I really don't know. Please don't get your heart set on one organization because it is not the letters that matter but what it comprises and stands for (sisterhood) that is important. Some PNMs doing the same thing through rush and get their hearts broken. I promise you will love any organization who decides to colonize NBO. So, good luck and I'll keep my fingers crossed.

TriDeltaGal is so right. It's just like recruitment...don't get your heart set on anything, the right chapter will be there for you when you're ready and they're ready.
I used to work for Tri Delta Executive Office and they did expansion according to so many factors, which most groups hold the same. It depends on the success of formal recruitment of NPC groups on campus (if they're already there) over the past 3-5 years. It depends on how many women are on campus, how large the campus is, what type of housing is available, if any. THe support of the Greek system is key (if there is a greek system). Some groups won't go on campuses if you're the first group (I can't remember if there are already NPC groups on campus).
If you ever have questions, you know you can ask me

Oh guys,
You worry about me too much I promise. I don't really have my heart set on anything so much that it's consuming my thoughts...it's like this. I get this group of sororities that seem like they're awesome matches. But then I start looking at other sororities I hadn't even considered before (like Tri-Sigma and Chi O) and suddenly I realize how amazing they are too. It's like infatuation sorta...I get crushes easily. I got a letter from Theta today saying that they weren't interested at this time. Really I didn't feel that we had a huge chance with either Theta or Tri-Delt, just because of how much they've both colonized recently and what they're looking for in a campus. I'm still hoping to hear from a couple organizations, but things will work out for the best. The thing I'm wishing now is that I just had more time...I think that, given an extra week or two, I could at least feel like I've given everything I can give to the effort of finding the right organization to affiliate with. So that's where I'm at right now. So don't worry about me, I'm not really putting all my eggs in one proverbial basket, so to speak. My horoscope today said to it's better to aim for a sure thing than something unstable...I'm not sure if I agree with that though. Challenge is good for us! Ok I gotta get back to cramming for my math final tomorrow. Thank you all for keeping me in line and offering advice!

Alpha Xi Delta is interested in UCSC! That doesn't mean they're interested in Nu Beta Omicron specifically, but we can invite them back and hopefully wow them! I learned a ton of stuff from their director of expansion, and I'm going to post it all soon, but I haven't slept in twenty four hours (cramming for finals which are finally DONE!) so I'm going to get some rest. More later, I'm happy!
