Ok, so I know I told all my girls to pick one favorite so we could come up with five we were really aiming for, but after looking through all this info and hearing so much good stuff about everyone, i picked five so far and I haven't heard anything from the other girls yet! This is going to be tough...but I'm scared that no national will want us, so it freaks me out to be thinking I can just pick and choose. This being said, here are my five that I'm feeling attatched to right now (I have no doubt that this will change a billion times before anything even happens)
Theta
DG
Tridelt
AXiD
AOII
Between these five I feel like I have a really good mix. I'm so excited about all of this! Write back with thoughts or opinions pretty please!
love, Corina

i would suggest sitting down and going to all the national websites out there - as well as some random chapter pages from different schools- and see what interests your group as a whole. make a list of the orgs out there and make a kind of pro-con list, what you like what you dont like. of course you are going to get everyone in gc to plug their own orgainization...and you arent going to hear anything negative. not that there will be negative aspects, but you want unbiased information dont you - to make a decision for whats best for your group.

Yeah, Wishin!
I knew things would change for the better, and that newspaper feature sounds exactly like what you need to get the word out there. I'm really happy things are working out.
I agree with volgirl re: going through national/chapter websites. It's a good idea to get a feel for the sorority as a whole - and I'm thrilled you have TriDelt among your top list. But...the most important thing is that you find an organization that you really fit with and whose ideals you not only identify with, but will identify with in 20 years. That's just my .02.
Good luck! Can't wait for the next update.

Hello Corina,
I read this thread often but I am a frist time replier. Anyways, I see you have picked the battered womens shelter as your potential philanthropy project and just wanted to let you know that AXO's philanthropy focuses on domestic violence and abuse.
Many chapters help out at their local battered women's shelter (in College Station where I went to school it is Phoebe's home).
Good Luck and sounds like you are dong a fantastic job-I admire you so much for having the drive to do this.

Corina-
I see that AggieAXO has beaten me to it, but I also would recommend looking at Alpha Chi Omega if you are interested in helping battered women. It is such a noble and worthy cause. It always brins me such happiness to know how positively we helped women in need.
Best of luck to you and NBO! I am so excited for you!!!

Theta's website is really good and I think you could get a lot of great information as well as theta facts on the site.
www.kappaalphatheta.org
if there is anything i could help you with please let me know. Also on our site it has our ELC's schedules (educational leadership consultants) they work for nationals. When they are out west this semester maybe you could email them and see if they could meet up with you and talk about some things with them. Hope this helps. I know theta is always looking to expand it seems like every magazine I get from them there is a story of a new chapter or colony beginning.
Good luck

yeah
Corina...
it looks so good right now.
just do it slow and steady. the shelter looks like a terrific philanthropy for your girls. it's perfect.
use the story and the pictures to sell yourself. this is a biggie. know what you want the reporter to have and make sure they get it. manipulation? of course it is. make it work for you.

Congrats on all your recent success!!! You are an amazing woman! The newspaper report will be awesome PR for you!! Make sure that the shelter will allow them to come. I know that we are not allowed to bring extra people or take any pictures when we volunteer at the local shelter! It is for the security of the women and children there. If you have any questions about AOII, feel free to ask! Check out our international website at www.alphaomicronpi.org it has some good info and links to chapter sites! GOOD LUCK in you decision. You have narrowed it down to some wonderful organizations. I'm sure it will be a decision that will take lots of thought. I'm sure you will get good response from the NPC groups that you contact. Just remember to be persistant if you don't get a response.
GOOD LUCK!

Be sure to check out Zeta Tau Alpha. Our webpage discusses our creed, history, and other interesting information. It also talks about our philanthropy, The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Here's the address: www.zetataualpha.org
Best of luck to you!

Hey everyone,
I've totally been beating all of you to the punch! I've been religiously going through all of the websites, and writing down their creeds, mottos, colors, purposes, mascots, goals, philanthropies, etc. I've also been taking note of how many collegiate and alumna chapters each org has in Ca and in the central coast area. So once I'm done I should have a pretty good handle of who works best with our chapter, but I'm totally open to new info and suggestion at this point. I've been emphasizing to my girls (as well as definitely keeping it in mind for myself) that we need to go into this with an open mind, and not get our hopes up or close ourselves off to anyone. For all we know our top choices right now might not have any interest in us at all- heck, all of the orgs might not be interested. Plus, I'm sure some that we don't feel like we're clicking with now could totally wow us later in the game. It's so frustrating, I just want everything to happen now! I'm trying to be patient (not my strong suit). Do you think we should have a theme for rush? Now is the time for us to begin our planning, but I'm not sure if I should aim for something beyond a very simple operation. You want to know something? (Sorry everyone, I'm in a very chatty mood right now!) I am totally amazed with everyone that has been helping us. First it was Greekchatters that just blew my mind with your kindness and support. Now it turns out that the entire Greek community here at my school has been nothing but loving and supportive also. Frats are talking to us about having socials, Gamma Phi offered to sponsor us if we need help, and a bunch of different orgs have offered to help us borrow or get together stuff for rituals and initiation. People are all so nice! I'm thinking my next step is to have everyone pull together their resources and get letters of reccomendation and general support. This, combined with constant pestering of NPC to stay on top of things, will be good for us I'm sure. This is a whole lot of work but I'm having fun!

I don't know if you're still looking for a national to possibly affiliate with, but you might want to check out Kappa and Chi O because neither has a national philanthropy. My undergrad chapter worked with a domestic abuse shelter as well, and not having a national philanthropy was great because we got to pick something we really believed in that suited us. With Kappa, you'd get a lot of local support, too, there are LOTS of chapters in California. PM me if you want to know anything else about Kappa, I think the public section of the national web site isn't as informative as it could be. It's http://www.kappakappagamma.org
Good luck!

Actually, Chi Omega has adopted the Make A Wish foundation as our national philanthropy.
