There's a HUUUUGE difference between an Art Education major and an Art Studio major...at least, there is here. A lot of the art students I know are...shall we say...anti-establishment, and they aren't keen on Greek-letter organizations because they encourage conformity. (These aren't my words...this is just what I've heard being said. )

Anyway, to whoever wanted to use those letters--I say go ahead and do it! A professional organization and a social organization are different, so I don't think you'd be invading anyone else's territory.

I did alittle research...

kappa pi is a co ed fraternity that is social and professional and has 168 ACTIVE chapters...pretty big for someone I've never heard of before. Just kinda interesting......

But Kappa Pi Sorority would be a technically different name

You know what I would like ... a sorority for graduate students. They're frequently looking for support and service, but from their peers (not older alums or undergrads). It would have to not conflict with membership in an NPC or NPHC org, and probably have a reduced time commitment. Also, given the different lifestyles of grads, it wouldn't have houses, or tons of mixers. It would probably have more of a service focus. Think A Phi O, graduate women only.

The idea is more important than the details, but here's my stab at 'em:

name: Sigma Sigma (service sisterhood)
nickname: Double S
principles: Service to school and community; high scholarship
colors: gray and white (hey, they're not taken yet)
symbol: hand (lifts others up)
mascot: none
jewel: marcasite
flower: white carnation
motto: School, service, sisterhood
philanthropy: Local charities

That's a cool idea-I did a thread search on it and DGWannabe was starting one and asked for advice about it. Maybe you'd want to pm her about it.
I know I'd be interested. I'll be going to grad school reall really far away from my home (and chapter) so I know I'd dig it. i'd like to stay involved.

Since the lambda chi's i hung out with at school couldn't have lil' sisters, we created a mini-sisterhood for ourseleves:
Xi Phi Pi (for AXiD, Phi Mu, and AOTT)
our colors were: navy blue, pink and red (didn't look too good together)
our flower: the white rose (adapted from the lambda chis)
our symbols: a shooting star, a magic wand, a heart, a moon
our badge: we didn't have badges, but we each did get a magic wand from the $1 store
principles: friendship, love and shooting for the stars, support for woman
philanthropy: we didn't actually have one, but if we did I think it would have been to set up scholarships at colleges for underprivlidged women to go to college
jewel: we didn't have one, but diamonds are a girl's best friend.
our motto: here's to the one's we love, we love....here's to the one's who love us, love us, but the ones that love us aren't the ones we love, so F***k them, here's to us..... ok, not actually a motto a bitchy cheer for girls with pms.
