Actually it is a Pin or Badge light of course.

They are a classy way to show who is living in the House and who is the GLO.

The SX house at my alma mater has one made of stainlees with the pin back lit as the items on the pin are painted on.

I want to get one for our chapter house as the one we made of wood being outside finally rotted out.

Does your school have any type of classes that do wood working or plastic classes?

XO should not be that hard to get made and would look great hanging at the house. How about boy friends, or family members who are handy? If it is out of the elements then it can be cut from wood and hung under a pourch over hang.

Is it the lightbulb itself that is burned out? Or is it an electrical problem? I think someone mentioned an electrician earlier in the thread, but I was going to say, if the lightbulb itself is burned out, bring in the burned out bulb to a lighting store, they should be able to help you (eta: the bulb itself might be a bit unusual, so the lighting staff could compare it and sell you a new one).

I really like both the Sigma Kappa & KAT lights...very cool. I'd love to see the XO one, if you have a photo.

Have the badge lights been around University of Kentucky for awhile? I stayed at the Alpha Gam chapter there for a few days while I was in undergrad (this would have been in the early 90s), and I don't recall a badge light on our chapter house...or on any other chapter house either. (Perhaps I just didn't notice??)

You're awesome! I really want one now, or at least to find out where to get one so I can donate it to my chapter's house up here. I love our badge

If I had any better carpentry skills, that would be really easy to make.

Not every house have had the lights. But they have been on campus at least since the mid to late '70s. Frankly, I don't recall y'all - Alpha Gamma Delta - having one. But that doesn't mean y'all didn't. Some houses did, while others did not. And you might not have really notice the badge "lights" unless it was night.

For what it is worth, none of the UK pictures posted in daylight really do the badges justice. Seeing them at night is really amazing.

Susan314,

If you haven't seen one even in a photo, in the thread on pictures of houses when I think BettyDavisEyes, posted pictures of a bunch of houses by GLO, in the Alpha Gam section there's a picture of a pin light of our badge in the second to bottom picture.

I hadn't seen one before, as far as I know, but now I think every chapter should have one.

OK, now THAT is impressive.

The Oklahoma State chapter of Tri-Delt had their 3 Delta's on the front of the house, and they had a backlight to them that looked BADASS at night. I know it's not a pin-light, but hela cool non theless.

The Gamma Phi Beta house at the University of North Dakota has a cool crescent light on top of a tower - and the letters in lights over the door. I'd post a picture, but am not sure how to do it.

Badge Lights at Kentucky

That's the old house on Woodlawn, isn't it? Do they have a new one on the new house?

I can remember going by the Sigma Chi house as a freshman and getting a giggle over how much the badge light looked liked those "Jesus Saves" lights on country churches.

In answer to other questions: The Zeta light was brass and enamel, with lights all around the shield like pearls. I believe the crown and greek letters in the center were backlit. I don't think there was any wood in it. We had to crawl out on the portico from time to time to hang banners, and I banged my shins on it more than once.

I'm sure ours came from a sign company or lighting company. I have no idea where it ended up.

Lisa, did Sigma Kappa have it centered on the portico, or on the side of the house?

While there is no picture of the AGD house at my Alma Mater, they have a Pin that is lit on thier house.

The only two on campus are they and SX.

I think it is really nice to have the Pins/Badges placed on the House and letters to not be to garish and huge to let those people know who each of us are!

We had some Brothers some years back on the old house decide to paint it a "kind of yellow" , and two foot letters with our colors. It looked terrible!
