I was fortunate enough to have been one of the sisters that our founder took out to lunch to discuss the history of our chapter. She was in her eighties, and sharp as a tack! It was fascinating to hear what all they went through to become a colony, and then a chapter in 1919-1920, and it was a privilage to know Louise Hetherington. She passed away about 5 years later, but the memory of that high tea in her club (PAA) will remain with me always!

May y'all have the chance to do the same with chapter members, 50-60 years from now!

Corina, the star points idea is a great one! The best way to encourage chapter morale and unity is through encouraging needed behaviors with rewards instead of frustration and punishment!

wishuponastar, congrats to you for finding a great group like NBO! Best wishes for your rush and of course to NBO!

And Dianne, congrats on your acceptance into grad school!

Excellent!!!!!

so I'm doing ok. We've instituted this star points idea I had- basically we drew a big star on a whiteboard, and labeled each of the points: academics, sisterhood, greek relations, new members, and philanthropy. Right in the middle of the star is labeled personal. Then at each meeting we tell what we did for our star points that week-
What a great idea!! Very clever!!! I'm sure it will help you and the ladies focus on the *positive* things.

Great work!

I just wanted to say that after meeting the women of NBO I can attest to the fact that they are a really great group of women, and from what I have learned, NBO is a great sorority. I am really looking forward to becoming a part of their sisterhood!!

Best wishes Andrea! I hope you find a home with NBO!

Corina,

I'm with honeychile and ktsnake, find a way to preserve this thread. . My entire alumnae initiation thread disappeared when GreekChat went down a few months ago. I was so bummed because I hadn't thought to save the thread somehow and now the story of my journey is lost. You can try cutting and pasting it into a file or SOMETHING. If you happen to have a whole ream of paper and a few hours handy, you could just print it outright. Just find a way to save the thread onto something that's not the GreekChat server!

Archives?

One thing I have seen done on other bulletin boards is the creation of a Archive section of VIP threads that are no longer active but that are considered important, useful, or just monumental in the history of the board. Perhaps that is something that GC could consider.

I'm going to go a step further: I think this thread is SUCH a good example of true Panhellenic spirit that, not only should it be saved possibly bound for NBO and its future NPC sorority, but as a tribute to what one woman, with help and encouragement can accomplish!

Anyone else think that way?

Congrats to NBO on your new potential sisters!

Definitely preserve this thread, and definitely preserve it somewhere that isn't this server (this is the MIS person within me talking ). Save it to your computer and/or print it out... you can always add to it as NBO's story unfolds.

What do you think would be the best way to go about saving it? Do I need to copy paste every single page Now I'm so paranoid that it's going to disapear!

Hi Corinna!

I'm totally snowed in, so have some time on my hands. Anyhow, I noticed at the bottom of each page is an option "Show printable version". I clicked on it, and it shows page one, ready to print. I'd get a lot of paper (this is page 64, after all!), and print it out as you can. If you have acid-free paper, it won't desinigrate or yellow as fast.

And if you'd like some of us to help you, just give a hollar. I'd be happy to print some or all of it for you!

So things are progressing nicely. We have two interested women who came to a meeting last night, just to see how we operate, what we focus on, etc. And the star points idea is going really well, I like it alot. I'm also drawing up a contract so that everyone is aware of their responsibilties within NBO. I'm very excited about our potential new members, I feel like they are in line with what we believe in, and I can tell that, if all goes well, they're going to be wonderful additions. Here's the problems that I'm facing though:
1. We have one member who just consistently does not show up for meetings, doesn't make an effort, etc. We've tried talking to her about it but she doesn't seem to change. She'll swear up and down that she wants to be a part of NBO, she's going to be devoted, and then it doesn't happen. What makes it even more frustrating is that she often gives us a guilt trip and tells us that she feels left out, and not in the loop. Well, maybe if she came to meetings she would be in the loop. Anyway, we're all tired of babysitting her, trying to call her and remind her of meetings, etc. We even changed our meeting times so that it would be more accesable for her and one other member. But does she show up? No, even after we had called her the day before and gotten a confirmation that she would be there. I'm over it. I'm supposed to talk to her today and give her an ultimatum- ie show up to the next three meetings or don't show up at all- but I've been studying all day and I have a midterm tonight and thus I don't really have the time or the energy for it right now.
2. Three of her friends were the other three girls who were interested in joining NBO. But I haven't been able to get in contact with them, and going through her obviously doesn't work, so I don't know what's going on with them. Plus I don't think they'd be interested if she's not active anymore, so I don't know what's going on.
3. We are still very interested in going NPC, but I don't think that AZD is going to be interested in us. We're obviously nowhere near 35 members, and we won't be able to obtain that number by April. I'm going to be really sad if my dreams of being a part of an NPC sorority don't come true. Should we look into other organizations again? I don't know that anyone else would be very impressed with us either. We've done a ton of philanthropy work since we last checked in with AZD, but we've lost as many members as we've gained and thus we're making very little progress! I'm feeling a little overwhelmed right now, someone tell me everything is going to be ok please.

love, Corina

Glad things are progressing.

I would look into other NPC groups if I were you. It can't hurt to make some inquiries. My local sorority became a colony of AEPhi when we only had 10 members (though we were not chartered until we more than doubled) so you may very well find a group that you like that doesn't say "you must have x members by this date or else".

Nobody ever said being a founder was easy but you can do this!

Don't sweat it, girl! You have a lot of positive things going on right now. Trust me, NPC sorority or not, having members not show up and be slack is just part of the territory. You've got a good handle on things right now - keep up the good work!
