AXiD670,
I think we came to the conclusion that it really IS a school with deferred since she seems not to understand that all schools don't do it that way.

It's one thing to speculate about schools, but I don't really know that we should be speculating specific chapters at specific schools. That makes me really uncomfortable, especially this time of the year. Also, we have no proof or really too much in the way of hints. While I don't give Ms. Robbins much credit, I really don't think she'd just use the chapter names as the names of the sororities. A bit too obvious.

Yes. Recruitment for many schools is quite literally around the corner. If you would like to share your guesses at chapters, please PM or email, don't post them here, just to be safe.
But guessing at schools, we're all for!

I'm pretty sure that it isn't the University of Texas. We don't have deferred rush, and I can't think of any house that has 90 people living in it... There are a few other things that made me think that it wasn't at UT, but I can't remember exactly what...

While IU does have deferred rush (although the first round is done before Thanksgiving) and there are over 100 girls living in the houses, there are other things in the book that make me think it isn't IU.

I can almost bet the people she focused on came from a college with deferred rush. I have read this book once and went back and reread it this past week. I make notes about it when I find something interesting, but I really agree that the deferred rush doesnt seem changed. I also agree with the strict system/status comment. I really feel like greek life would be a big thing on the campus. I really dont think anyone who is curious on here would want to know who the girls are and out them or anything, though Im pretty sure the respective sororities already have guessed it was them. I just think it drives us batty not to know exactly where she is talking about. I wish we could figure out what was changed and what remained true so we could figure out the school. I dont think that its all BS, but alot of it is. I too thought when I read it that since she only used 2 names of chapters like Beta Rho that the name was the chapter name of a national sorority, I still think that is true. I doubt shed go through and change every name exactly, I think shed keep chapter name so people could guess but wouldnt know for sure. I think if we have some super researchers on here we could crack the question of where this takes place, but I wouldnt even know where to start.
I will say something I read that I thought could make this book take place in NY or somewhere near there, the one girl in the book she talks how she drives from her home to the town where State U is at. Then she describes the girls hometown as a place that sounds like suburbs of NYC or something. I also toyed around with that the college she was at was actually a state university, but we need to figure out the city or states name, like Youngstown State University, I know its not that place at all, just a example.
I wonder what she will put up on her site in Oct about the girls. I also wonder if itll eventually get out the college because there has to be people who arent greek or arent in that sorority who would know those girls and read this and know and maybe tell someone else and it gets out. Just a thought.

My take on Pledged
http://www.livejournal.com/users/lik...ind/21291.html
The link above is to my review of Pledged. I based it on the fact that many of the reviews that I have read consist solely of "Alexandra Robbins is a bitch" and so on and so forth. I would really love to hear what some of you have to say about it... I would post it here, but it is 5 pages long!

it was a good book, easy reading, but i just dont like how she just tried to tell all the sororities different rituals and secrets. its really none of anyone elses business. what do people think we do on initiation? its all just fun. but whatever.
