That's the way it is down in Corpus. I don't see much of it in SA, but then again, I am a Corpus kid and don't spend holidays in SA.

And Andy, the whole "BBQing at the park on Easter" bit made me laugh! I'm embarrassed to even say this, but I remember as a kid getting together with my family at the park on Easter Sunday. And when I say family, you know what I mean. There was also a fool who woke up at like 5am to head out to the park and get a spot. Apparently it's a huge deal out here in Corpus. I even remember one year someone rented a Skid-O-Can, one of those portable potties that you see at festivals. My family obviously didn't mess around. We no longer get together at the park, thank God, but unfortunately it is something my family used to do.

South Texas was a new experience for me....

Poinsettias grow outside - as bushes? You all get in rivers here? You call that a river? Why does everyone eat outside? Its thanksgiving and I can wear shorts outside? How is it this damn foggy at night? Could it be any hotter? Its a quarter inch of snow, WHY is the town shut down? Whats a low water crossing? You cant really drive 100 mph on 77 between Kingsville and the Valley, can you? How do you call 55 degrees and drizzle WINTER? Why does everyone have pictures of their family in a field of bluebonnets? Thats not a taco, thats a burrito -becasue its in a flour tortilla - yes it is! Youre 24 and the only time you ever saw snow was January 1985? Whats so damn spacial about that 2 story Whataburger in Corpus? Why tamales and christmas? What the hell is backstrap and why is Nov 1st so important? Whats up with all the spanish? Whats a blue bell? My god the humidity....

So yeah, it was an experience coming to this part of the state. I consider myself a Texan by default. Whiel I was technically born IN Texas, the panhandle is more (gulp) Oklahoma than Texas.
HAHAHA I'm from Corpus so this is really funny. I wore shorts at Christmas this year!! A low water crossing is a low area in the road that the water runs over, but not so much that you can't drive over it! Yes you can drive 100 on 77 between Kingsville and the Valley. And 55 degrees is BLEEPING COLD!! Yes, the bluebonnets thing is true, and a burrito in a flour tortilla is a "SOFT TACO"!!!! The two story Whataburger is just cool and backstrap is the best part of a deer to chicken fry. It's this long "strap" of meat on the back. hmmmm...... BLue Bell?!! What is blue bell? Only the best ice cream EVER. If we would've lost that war, Corpus and south would BE MEXICO, that's why all the Spanish. And anything north of San Antonio, well you might as well be a Yankee. It's ok, Oklahoma is the biggest county in Texas.

You are too funny. Ive been here 12 years now (in South Texas) and ya'll should offer an orientation class. Seriously. It was a whole different world. I have gotten used to it and call it home now, but it was a change and on occasion still find myself laughing at soem of the unique qualities of south Texas, but wouldnt live anywhere else willingly.

I really enjoy reading all of y'alls conversations... It kind of makes me homesick! I guess the thing that I love about Texas is how friendly everyone is (after all -- Tejas does mean friend)... Being in the deep south has been a real disapointment. I'd always heard of southern hospitality but I have yet to experience it... Hell, I've encountered more friendly faces in Chicago for crying out loud! The service here SUCKS! At home people pretty much fall all over you with service, here you're lucky to get a refill or even know your servers name. I just don't get it... I really don't.

They are trying to change Baton Rouge into a more Austin-ish city but it will never work cause this is still not Texas!

South Texas rocks! I love me some Mexican, technically TexMex, food! We were totally supposed to BBQ for Easter but it rained harder than anything Noah ever saw... It was plain awful!

now that i've rambled on and on...

Andy, this one's for you. My Uncle, a Texas Ex, had his tailgate done. I thought you would appreciate it.

For those of you not following along at home.... UTSA DOESNT have a football team. So I have to choose another schools team to follow. My initial requirements were as follows: 1) I wanted to cheer for a program IN STATE from an academically renowned university with prestige and 2) Wanted to cheer for a program that could win games. Clearly BOTH of my prereqs eliminate A&M, so I was left with UT.
