To me, it seems alot of this stuff is common sense. If a PNM actually needs advice on what NOT to put on a public/private/non-existant profile then I think a certain someone should think twice about rush. If you're in college you should know better than to allow yourself to be viewed in anytype of negative way, espcially if you, yourself are posting the evidence.
And if you just so happen to be tagged at that kegg party last thursday, you can always politely untagg, but if you choose to make that picture your profile pick... Reap what you sow.
I am beginning to think that some of these advice threads are becoming more like step by step manuals for PNM rather than 'general advice'

Things that you should not have on your facebook profiles/walls/names:
No inappropriate words or phrases on your facebook wall/names/picture descriptions, including but not limited to:

No ALCOHOL on you Don't be holding:
Party cups (red solo cups), beer cans/bottles, champagne, liquor, wine glasses, margarita glasses, martini glasses, etc.

If you look drunk or people around you do, even if you aren’t, detag or delete the picture Hope this helps you. People and furture employeer do look at these.

". . . don't let people who are now in a sorority see these things about you?" Call me Machiavellian, but I say let her post away on Facebook!!

If this is the language and behavior that a girl is comfortable with, I would prefer that I know it before I write her a glowing rec, and certainly before my house pledges her. Maybe it's just me, but there is something about illegal and immoral behavior that bothers me. I know both underage drinking and behavior that used to qualify as "qm" years ago are common, but I still don't have to like it, condone it, recommend it, or help a PNM hide it.

PNMs have been hiding it for years. They're just a little stupider about having to do it nowadays. If you have never bid a girl who turned out to be the opposite of what she appared from her glowing recs from mom's garden club friends and rush, then I say exalt, because your bullshit detector is better than 99.9999999% of the sorority women on here.

No, believe me, that's NOT what I'm saying. I just don't want to aid and abet the process.

Oh, I get that.

It just cracks me up that students actually have to be TOLD to hide things like that and that it's not second nature.

My daughter did not take down her political view. She said I am not stupid and I have an opion even though it my not be the majority but it is hoe I feel. I did have her take down the picture of her in a hot tub with red cups. Even though there was just coke in the cups. I told her that her grandmother would probably think different. She said oh yea. Then later admitted they were trying to look cool and it went somewhere but not her profile pic.

You'd be surprised how UNcommon sense it is to not have pictures of your drinking on Facebook. I frequently have to go through and clean up my profile after someone else I know gets in trouble. Whoops...

Because colleges tend to take large amounts of girls from certain areas (for instance, KC and Wichita at KU), it's easy to "facebook stalk" a PNM because she may be a friend of a friend of a friend. I'm pretty good at digging up dirt, I must say. Making your profile friends-only is not enough to keep that stuff from prying eyes.

However, I've known many girls who joined top houses with TONS of incriminating pictures, listing "drinking and boys" as their interests, the whole nine... sigh.

It has been my experience that any sorority that took a girl with a blatantly inappropriate profile ended up regretting it in some way. There was a girl who came through my last year of recruitment whose profile pic was of her doing a keg stand. Her interests included (no joke) "jagerbombs, blacking out, not going to class." Holding a drink in a pic does not bother me at all, but every single one of her pics was of her chugging stuff like 151. She was also obnoxious in real life. She ended up pledging a sorority, coming to the house drunk during her NM period and attempting to break things.

Hahaha wooow... That's a classy broad.

I can't imagine a girl like that getting a bid from anyone at my school (well maybe except for one org), and my school isn't even that competitive.

I do think its very important that PNMs are very cautious with what they put on facebook. Many sororities on my campus do a lot of research as soon as they meet a PNM...get the list of names of women coming through recruitment...etc.

As the Recruitment Advisor for my chapter I am going to challenge them to really find out as much as possible about PNMs...not saying that a beer in hand is a bad thing...but people tend to create a facebook page that really describes them.

Western Carolina University does not have a competitive greek system. Political, Religious and other campus affiliations would certainly not have any bearing on releasing a woman from recruitment.

I do agree with the posts with PNMs stating interests as "Smoking Weed, Blacking Out, Not Going to Class" as red flags.

Underage students also must be very cautious if they have pictures of them drinking or partaking in illegal activity especially in dorms on campus as many of the Resident Directors and other higher ups on campus can use those pictures as evidence of underage drinking and have sanctioned students based on that...

In a nutshell...make sure that you make your pictures AND profile viewable to friends only...the privacy level for pictures is different than the profile... the end

Am I the only one who thinks that Facebook/Myspace are going to get to the point where everyone's being so careful with their profiles (and everything else on them) that they'll just vanish?

I mean, if everything is "private" it kind of defeats the purpose of networking.
